Strategic Account Application Engineer

Reporting to the Engineering Applications Manager, the Strategic Account Application Engineer – Gunderson is responsible for being the dedicated technical owner for the Gunderson account in Mexico. This position ensures operational excellence across all customer manufacturing sites through proactive technical support, process auditing, quality assurance, cross-functional leadership and continuous improvement. The role serves as the primary interface between Gunderson and ESAB Manufacturing, Quality, Product Management, Sales, Supply Chain and Engineering to protect the business, strengthen customer confidence and enable sustainable growth.

Primary Duties

• Act as the primary technical contact for Gunderson across all manufacturing sites.
• Provide on-site application engineering support and welding process optimization.
• Lead troubleshooting activities and support production start-ups.
• Support qualification of new products, welding procedures and applications.
• Build trusted relationships with customer stakeholders.
• Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and CAPA activities.
• Monitor process stability and product performance.
• Identify trends and drive preventive actions.
• Ensure closure and verification of corrective actions.
• Conduct routine process audits at Gunderson facilities.
• Audit ESAB manufacturing processes supporting Gunderson.
• Verify compliance with quality standards and specifications.
• Coordinate improvements with Manufacturing and Quality teams.
• Support strategic customer meetings.
• Identify new application and growth opportunities.
• Assist with product qualifications and technical presentations.
• Develop annual improvement plans.
• Deliver technical training.
• Track KPIs and publish performance reports.
• Standardize best practices across all customer locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Welding, Metallurgical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering.
• 5+ years in welding applications, manufacturing or industrial engineering.
• Experience supporting strategic industrial customers.
• Knowledge of GMAW, FCAW, GTAW and SAW.
• Experience with RCA, CAPA and Continuous Improvement.
