Street Maintenance Worker

Job Summary

In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to street and municipal upkeep, construction, and repair. This position offers the opportunity to operate heavy equipment, utilize power tools, and contribute directly to the beautification and safety of our streets and community. You will provide services for citizens including but not limited to tree removal/trimming, culvert maintenance/installation, weekly residential brush pick-up, mowing/trimming, vehicle maintenance and respond to emergency situations with possible seasonal on call hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform various duties as instructed and maintenance related to municipal streets, alleys, parking areas, necessary curb/parking painting, etc.
• Clean and repair drains; install street signs, conduct traffic control, trim trees, sweep streets, and plow snow.
• Conducting signal operations of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to confirm grade specifications.
• Mow road ditches, airport, nuisance yards, (as directed by Police Department), all other City owned property that is not contracted out to be mowed.
• Assist contractors and homeowners with street cuts, sidewalk replacements, etc.
• Maintain and operate equipment, including but not limited to loader, backhoe, dump spreaders, zero turn mowers, trencher, bucket trucks, jetter, etc.
• Perform maintenance and repairs as needed for all city vehicles and equipment.
• Respond to emergency situations / subject to on call

Requirements

• Knowledge of construction site safety procedures including traffic control measures for work zones.
• Ability to operate power tools and hand tools safely in outdoor environments.
• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic repairs or troubleshooting on light and heavy equipment.
• Valid Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with no air brake restrictions.
• Strong physical stamina for heavy lifting, manual handling tasks, and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
• Knowledge of utility locating techniques is a plus.
• Construction experience in roadwork or related fields highly desirable.
• Two years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance, roadway, roadside, bridge, sign maintenance, or pavement marking responsibilities is preferred.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to perform physical work in a variety of weather and environmental conditions. Duties may require:

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and reaching.
• Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment.
• Ability to operate vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and other adverse conditions.
• Ability to work around traffic, machinery, noise, dust, chemicals, and other typical maintenance hazards.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
