String repair technician

Role Description The String Repair Technician is a full-time, on-site role based at the Palen Music Center location in Wichita, Kansas. This role is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing string instruments such as violins, violas, cellos and basses. Daily tasks include performing adjustments, setups, and repairing of string instruments; and documenting work performed. The technician may interact directly with customers and store staff to explain repair options, provide estimates, and support high levels of customer satisfaction. The role also involves maintaining a well-organized repair area, tracking inventory of parts and tools, and collaborating with sales and educational representatives to meet service needs.

Qualifications

• Effective communication skills for explaining repair work, timelines, and care instructions to customers and team members.
• Prior experience in instrument repair, restoration or luthiery.
• Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to work safely with specialized tools and materials.
• Ability to work on-site full time in Wichita Kansas, manage multiple repair tickets, and meet deadlines in a busy shop setting.
