Overview

HB Companies / Horizontal Boring LLC is looking to hire 2 experienced Welders to join our underground construction and auger boring team.

In this position, you will perform field welding, fitting, cutting, and fabrication primarily involving steel casing used in underground auger boring operations, along with other construction equipment and components as needed.

This is a field construction position, not strictly a shop welding position. We are looking for dependable, safety-minded welders who are comfortable working outdoors, around heavy equipment, excavations, and active underground construction operations.

The ideal candidate takes pride in producing strong, quality welds, works well as part of a crew, and is willing to help wherever needed to keep the job moving safely and efficiently.

Duties

• Weld steel casing used for underground auger boring operations.
• Fit, align, tack, and weld casing sections together as boring operations progress.
• Perform field welding, fabrication, and repairs on steel components and construction equipment as needed.
• Perform SMAW/Stick welding and other applicable welding processes based on project requirements.
• Cut, bevel, grind, clean, and prepare steel surfaces prior to welding.
• Use welding machines, torches, grinders, plasma cutters, power tools, and other fabrication equipment safely and efficiently.
• Take accurate measurements to properly fit, align, and fabricate steel components.
• Inspect completed welds for proper penetration, strength, alignment, and overall workmanship.
• Read and interpret basic drawings, measurements, specifications, and fabrication details as required.
• Work closely with Auger Superintndents, Operators, Foremen, Laborers, and other crew members during boring operations.
• Assist with positioning and handling heavy steel casing and components using construction equipment when required.
• Maintain welding equipment, leads, tools, and work areas in safe working condition.
• Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and project-specific jobsite safety rules.
• Assist the underground construction crew with additional duties when needed.

Experience

• Previous professional welding experience required.
• Experience welding steel pipe, steel casing, structural steel, or heavy construction materials strongly preferred.
• Previous underground construction, auger boring, pipeline, utility, or heavy civil construction experience is preferred.
• Strong experience with SMAW/Stick welding preferred.
• Experience with FCAW or MIG welding is a plus.
• Ability to produce consistent, strong welds in outdoor and field construction conditions.
• Experience with cutting, grinding, beveling, fitting, and preparing steel for welding.
• Ability to properly fit and align large-diameter steel casing prior to welding.
• Ability to use measuring tapes and other basic measuring tools accurately.
• Familiarity with welding symbols, drawings, and basic fabrication specifications is preferred.
• AWS welding certifications are a plus but not required unless specified by the project.
• Mechanical knowledge and experience working around heavy construction equipment is preferred.
• Must understand and follow proper welding and construction safety practices.
• Must be comfortable working around excavations, boring pits, cranes, excavators, loaders, and other heavy equipment.
• Must be able to work outdoors in Arizona construction conditions, including heat, dirt, dust, and changing jobsite environments.
• Must be dependable, safety-minded, and able to work effectively as part of a construction crew.
• Valid driver's license preferred.
• Must be able to meet company and project pre-employment requirements.
