Structural Design Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Structural Design Engineer to undertake structural design and engineering activities for building projects in the UAE/Middle East.

The successful candidate will be responsible for structural concept design, preliminary design, detailed/working drawings, structural modelling and analysis, design optimization, multidisciplinary coordination, authority/third-party approval support, and technical assistance during construction.

Candidates with strong UAE or Middle East structural design experience, knowledge of local regulations and approval processes, and relevant UAE professional registration are preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare structural concept design, preliminary design, and detailed/working drawings for building projects.
• Ensure structural designs comply with applicable UAE/local building regulations and standards, including relevant Eurocodes and US standards, where applicable.
• Incorporate applicable green building standards into structural design requirements.
• Perform structural modelling, analysis, calculations, design checks, and optimization.
• Work on different structural systems, including:
• Steel structures
• Reinforced concrete structures
• Other relevant building structural systems as required by the project
• Develop and review structural design solutions to achieve safe, practical, and efficient engineering outcomes.
• Coordinate with architectural, MEP, and other disciplines to resolve design interfaces, clashes, and coordination issues.
• Support communication and coordination with local government authorities, including Dubai Municipality (DM), DDA, and other relevant approval authorities or third-party review organizations.
• Assist with drawing submission and approval processes and respond to technical review comments.
• Provide technical support during construction, including responding to site structural issues and technical queries.
• Investigate and provide engineering solutions for structural issues encountered during construction.
• Maintain a strong focus on engineering quality, structural safety, accuracy, and technical compliance.

Candidate Requirements

Education

• University Bachelor's Degree.
• Relevant structural/civil engineering education is required based on the nature of the position.

Professional Experience

• Minimum 5 years of structural design experience in the UAE or Middle East building/construction sector.
• Strong experience in building structural design and engineering.
• Candidates with experience working for Chinese construction/engineering companies or well-known local/international consulting firms are preferred.
• Candidates with local Dubai structural design management experience are preferred.
• Chinese candidates are preferred.

Structural Engineering & Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of structural design principles and engineering practices.
• Experience with steel and reinforced concrete structures.
• Strong capability in structural modelling, analysis, calculation, and design optimization.
• Good understanding of applicable UAE structural/building regulations and authority approval procedures.
• Knowledge of relevant Eurocodes and US structural standards.
• Understanding of applicable green building standards.
• Strong multidisciplinary design coordination capability.
• Strong attention to engineering accuracy and structural safety/risk prevention.

Software Skills

The candidate should be proficient in relevant structural engineering and design software, including:

• ETABS
• SAP2000
• SAFE
• STAAD.Pro
• AutoCAD
• Revit / BIM

Communication Skills

• Proficient English.
• Able to communicate effectively in English for technical and business-related matters.
• Good cross-disciplinary coordination and communication skills.

Professional Registration / Licenses

The following credentials are preferred/required as specified in the hiring requirements:

• UAE Society of Engineers (SOE) registration / SOE Card.
• UAE Municipality registration/license – preferred.
• UAE Free Zone registration/license – preferred.

Preferred Candidate Background

Preference will be given to candidates who:

• Are currently based in the UAE.
• Hold a valid UAE residence visa.
• Have local Dubai structural design management experience.
• Have 5+ years of structural design experience in the UAE or Middle East.
• Have experience with Chinese companies or established consulting firms.
• Hold the relevant UAE professional registration/credentials.
• Are available to join as soon as possible.
