Structural Design Engineer – Crane & Structural Steel Projects

About the role

This is a full-time, office-based role involving structural design, CAD drafting, site measurement, fabrication support and project delivery. You will assist in the design and documentation of overhead cranes, gantry cranes, jib cranes, monorails and their supporting steel structures. Working closely with clients, suppliers, external engineers, workshop staff and installation crews, you'll help deliver projects from design through to manufacture and installation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review the construction-level drawings in accordance with NZS3404 and all related standards
• Convert site measurements into design inputs
• Review building and structural drawings
• Support structural calculations and design development
• Produce fabrication and manufacturing drawings

About you

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
• Minimum 1-3 years of practical New Zealand engineering, structural steelwork, fabrication or construction industry experience
• Strong understanding of load paths, steel members, connections, bracing, base plates and foundation interfaces
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or relevant 3D modelling software
• Practical understanding of fabrication, installation and site constraints
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Practical, hands-on and solutions focused
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently
• Strong attention to detail
• Professional communicator with clients, suppliers and colleagues
