What they need

Sydney based, with regular travel to Honiara, Solomon Islands | 6-month contract | CC Pines

Base in Sydney. Work on something most engineers only read about.

CC Pines is looking for a Structural Project Engineer to join our Sydney team on a 6-month contract, supporting the structural scope on our project in the Solomon Islands. You'll be Sydney based day to day, with regular trips to site, so you get the best of both worlds: home comforts during the week, and hands-on island project work when it counts.

If you want a contract that adds "delivered structural works in the South Pacific" to your CV, not just another suburban fit-out, this one's for you.

About Us

CC Pines is an Australian-owned, family-founded construction company with a 45-year track record of delivering complex, high-risk projects that other contractors won't touch, from embassy builds in Morocco to Defence infrastructure across the Pacific. We work with the Australian Department of Defence, DFAT, and the US Department of Defence, and we've never had a reportable safety incident. We're big enough to run world-class projects, small enough that your voice actually gets heard.

Our values, humble, hungry, smart, aren't a poster on the wall. They're how we pick our people and how we run our projects.

Why This Role?

  • Sydney based, island exposure. Keep your home base and your routine, while adding genuinely rare offshore project experience to your career.
  • A properly interesting project. The Solomon Islands don't come up on many engineers' project lists. This is the kind of experience that gets noticed.
  • A defined 6-month contract. Clear scope, clear timeframe, ideal if you want a focused engagement rather than an open-ended commitment.
  • Real variety. Swap between design desk work in the Sydney office and on-the-ground problem solving in Honiara. No two weeks look the same.
  • Travel and support handled. Flights, accommodation and travel logistics for site visits are organised and covered, so you can focus on the work.
  • Career runway. The Pacific infrastructure and Defence-linked pipeline is growing fast, and this contract puts you right in the middle of it.

A Bit About Honiara

Honiara is the capital of the Solomon Islands, a laid-back, English-speaking Pacific city set among lagoons, rainforest and some of the best diving in the world. It's steeped in history too, this is where the Battle of Guadalcanal took place, and WWII wreck sites are still a drawcard for divers and history buffs alike. Site trips come with a genuine change of pace from Sydney: warm climate year-round, a relaxed island rhythm, and a small community where you'll get to know the project and the people properly, not just fly in and out anonymously.

The Role

As Structural Project Engineer, you'll take ownership of the structural design, coordination and delivery for our Solomon Islands project, working closely with the Project Manager and site team to make sure the structural scope is safe, compliant and delivered on program over the course of the contract. You'll split your time between Sydney based design and coordination work, and site visits to Honiara to oversee construction, resolve issues, and keep the project moving.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading structural design and engineering for the Solomon Islands project, from concept through to as-built
  • Coordinating with the Project Manager, site team and subcontractors to keep structural works on program and on spec
  • Reviewing and approving structural drawings, specifications and contractor submissions
  • Travelling to site in Honiara as required to inspect works, troubleshoot issues and support construction
  • Identifying risks early and working through practical solutions, including for the logistics of an offshore site
  • Ensuring structural works meet relevant Australian and international standards, plus local regulatory requirements
  • Reporting progress and technical updates to the Project Manager and wider project team

What We're Looking For

  • Degree-qualified Structural Engineer, with experience across design, construction, or a mix of both
  • Experience on construction or infrastructure projects, ideally including remote, offshore, or international sites
  • Comfortable working across time zones and coordinating with teams who aren't in the room
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the flexibility to adapt when island logistics don't go to plan
  • Solid communication skills, both technical and plain English, for working with a range of stakeholders
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally for site visits, including a valid passport
  • Available for a 6-month contract engagement, with the possibility of extension depending on project needs

Ready to Take Your Career Further Afield?

If you want a contract that keeps you based in Sydney but takes your career somewhere genuinely different, we'd love to hear from you.

Please note that CC Pines can only consider those currently residing in Sydney, with full working rights.
