Job Summary

We are the developer and owner of a prestigious 5-Star Hotel Development in Accra, Ghana, executing the project directly through labour contractors and directly procured materials. We are looking for an experienced site-based Structural Engineer to supervise and control structural execution at site on our behalf.

This is a hands-on execution and supervision role, not a design-office position. Structural design is issued by our appointed consultant; your role is to review and interrogate those drawings, translate them into buildable site instruction, supervise execution, enforce structural quality, and resolve site issues as they arise.

Key Responsibilities

Site Execution & Supervision

• Supervise all structural works at site excavation, foundations, columns, beams, slabs, shear walls, staircases and structural steel and ensure execution as per approved drawings and specifications.
• Check and approve line, level, alignment, reinforcement, shuttering, cover and formwork prior to every concrete pour.
• Supervise concrete pouring, compaction, finishing and curing, and enforce correct construction and expansion joint detailing.
• Direct and monitor labour contractors on daily structural activities and drive progress against the construction programme.
• Inspect foundations, columns, beams, slabs, steel structures and other structural elements at each stage of execution.

Drawing Review & Technical Resolution

• Review structural drawings, calculations, bar bending schedules and specifications issued by the design consultant, and raise queries before execution.
• Interrogate consultant drawings for buildability, coordination and site practicality, and obtain timely resolution of discrepancies.
• Coordinate with architectural, MEP and interior teams on sleeves, cut-outs, openings, embedments and service penetrations before pouring.
• Identify structural issues arising at site and propose practical engineering solutions in coordination with the consultant.
• Review contractor submissions, shop drawings, method statements and material specifications prior to approval.

Quality, Materials & Testing

• Enforce compliance with relevant structural codes, standards and approved method statements at all times.
• Inspect and approve incoming structural materials — cement, reinforcement steel, aggregates, admixtures and structural steel — and reject non-conforming supply.
• Supervise concrete mix design approval, batching, slump testing, cube casting, curing and test result review.
• Monitor reinforcement steel consumption against bar bending schedules and support the Quantity Surveyor on material reconciliation of free-issued steel and cement.
• Verify executed structural quantities and support measurement and certification of labour contractor bills.

Records, Safety & Handover

• Maintain complete site documentation — pour cards, inspection records, test reports, checklists, NCRs and as-built information.
• Ensure structural activities comply with health, safety, quality and environmental requirements, particularly for excavation, scaffolding, shuttering and working at height.
• Monitor progress and report structural status, constraints and risks to project management.
• Support testing, inspections, snagging and structural close-out through to handover.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
• 4 to 9 years of relevant experience in structural construction supervision at site.
• Strong practical knowledge of RCC construction, reinforcement detailing, formwork systems and structural steel erection.
• Hands-on site supervision experience is essential — this role is not suited to candidates with design-office or consultancy-only backgrounds.
• Experience on hotel, hospitality, high-rise, commercial or large-scale building projects is highly preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, bar bending schedules and technical specifications, and check them independently.
• Working knowledge of relevant international structural design codes and standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with STAAD.Pro, ETABS or SAFE for checking and verification is an advantage.
• Strong quality orientation and the confidence to stop non-conforming work at site.
• Good communication and coordination skills and the ability to direct contractors effectively, with fluency in English.
• Willing and physically able to work full-time from an active construction site in tropical conditions.
• Willingness to relocate to and remain based in Accra, Ghana for the duration of the project.
