Structural Engineer

At Boylan Consulting, we are seeking a Structural Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy team.

This is a varied technical and client-facing role supporting structural engineering projects from concept and detailed design through technical coordination and completion. The successful candidate will work across residential, commercial, industrial and modular projects, providing practical and technically robust solutions.

We are looking for a professional with 4-6 years of relevant experience, including experience within the Irish engineering and construction industry. The candidate should be able to work independently, manage projects and deadlines, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and communicate confidently with clients and contractors. Experience in modular construction or Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) is desirable.

About the available position:

- Location: Unit 33, Kells Business Park, Kells, Co. Meath, A82 Y466

- Salary: Negotiable

- Experience: 4-6 years

- Work Arrangement: Primarily Office-based position

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of technical and project activities, including:

• Undertaking structural design for residential, commercial, industrial and modular projects.

• Preparing structural calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.

• Designing steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry structures.

• Coordinating structural information with architects, civil engineers, fire consultants, building-services consultants, manufacturers and contractors.

• Supporting modular construction and MMC projects, including structural interfaces, connections, foundations and compliance requirements.

• Attending office-based client, design-team and coordination meetings, including online meetings where appropriate.

• Responding to construction-stage queries and providing technical support through project completion.

• Managing assigned programmes, deliverables and client requirements.

• Reviewing drawings and calculations prepared by junior engineers and technicians.

Essential Requirements:

• 4-6 years of structural engineering experience, including relevant Irish industry experience.

• Experience designing steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry structures.

• Ability to prepare and review structural calculations, drawings, specifications and reports.

• Working knowledge of Irish Building Regulations, Eurocodes and relevant engineering standards.

• Experience using Tekla Structural Designer, TEDDS or similar structural analysis and design software.

• Experience using AutoCAD and familiarity with Revit.

• Strong technical judgement, communication and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Skills / Attributes:

• Experience in modular construction, off-site construction or MMC.

• Experience with BIM and Revit coordination.

• Knowledge of structural connections, foundation interfaces and transportation or lifting considerations for modular units.

• Progress toward Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Ireland or another recognised professional body.

• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage office-based design and coordination activities.
