We’re partnering with a growing defence technology business developing and manufacturing autonomous surface vessels. They’re hiring a Structures Engineer to take ownership of structural hardware, from initial concepts and calculations through prototyping and production.

This is a hands-on opportunity to combine mechanical design and structural analysis , working closely with hardware engineers, suppliers and production teams to turn designs into reliable vessels.

What you’ll do

• Own the structural design of vessel systems and subsystems throughout development.
• Create 3D models in Siemens NX or SolidWorks and manufacturing drawings to ASME Y14.5 .
• Perform preliminary structural sizing using first-principles hand calculations , supported by FEA.
• Assess load cases and refine designs for strength, reliability and manufacturability.
• Lead design reviews and manage hardware schedules through PDR and CDR .
• Support prototype builds, supplier selection and hardware procurement.
• Document analysis results, design decisions and technical recommendations.

What we’re looking for

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 2+ years of structural analysis experience , including stress hand calculations and FEA.
• Experience with Femap, ANSYS or comparable structural analysis software .
• Practical CAD experience using Siemens NX or SolidWorks .
• A strong understanding of structural mechanics, materials and load-bearing components.
• The ability to explain engineering decisions clearly and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.

Engineers from aerospace, automotive, heavy equipment, energy or maritime backgrounds are welcome, particularly those who have both designed and analysed structural hardware.
