About us

Engineering Design Consultants Ltd (EDC) is a growing, multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with offices in Christchurch, Auckland and the Bay of Plenty. Our structural, civil, geotechnical, environmental and fire engineers work together to deliver smart, practical solutions for clients across New Zealand.

This is an opportunity to join a friendly, collaborative team, work across a genuinely varied project portfolio and continue developing your technical, project leadership and client-facing skills.

About the role

Reporting to the Structural Team Leader in Christchurch, you will work as part of a collaborative professional team to deliver high-quality structural engineering services. You will take responsibility for day-to-day design, documentation, coordination and construction monitoring, while supporting the development of junior team members and building trusted client relationships.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver structural design, analysis and documentation across steel, concrete, timber and masonry projects.
  • Prepare calculations, reports, tender documents and fee proposals to a high technical and quality standard.
  • Undertake site inspections, investigations and construction monitoring, and work through complex engineering challenges using first principles.
  • Coordinate projects and build strong relationships with clients, contractors, architects, councils and EDC's wider engineering teams.
  • Support junior engineers and draughting staff, while contributing to repeat business and new opportunities.

About you

  • A Washington Accord-accredited structural engineering qualification and at least three years' New Zealand experience preferred.
  • Practical design experience across steel, concrete, timber and masonry structures.
  • Working towards CPEng, with strong technical judgement and knowledge of relevant New Zealand standards and engineering software.
  • A confident communicator who can manage priorities, meet deadlines and build positive client and team relationships.
  • The right to live and work in New Zealand and a full, clean New Zealand driver licence.

What you can expect at EDC

At EDC, you will have the opportunity to work on varied and technically interesting projects, take greater ownership of your work and develop towards a senior engineering role. You will join a friendly, collaborative team where your contribution is valued, and professional development is actively supported.

We offer:

  • Competitive remuneration reflecting your experience and capability.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Clear career progression opportunities.
  • Funded memberships to relevant professional organisations.
  • A dedicated professional development and training budget.
