What they need
Structural Engineer – Light-Gauge Steel (MWF)
Immersive Structural Technologies | Grand Rapids, MI | Onsite
Position Summary
Immersive Structural Technologies is seeking a Structural Engineer to design and detail the light-gauge steel framing systems behind our factory-built residential homes. This role owns the structural design inside our Revit and MWF (Metal Wood Framer) workflow, turning architectural models into engineered, panelized framing that goes straight to fabrication. The ideal candidate combines cold-formed steel design expertise with hands-on MWF experience, and is comfortable working alongside design, drafting, and plant teams in a production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural design and analysis of light-gauge (cold-formed) steel framing for residential homes, including walls, floors, roofs, headers, and connections
- Design gravity and lateral systems, including shear walls, strap bracing, and load paths, in accordance with applicable codes and standards
- Configure and use MWF in Revit to generate framing, panelization, and fabrication outputs
- Develop and maintain MWF framing rules, configurations, and standards to support repeatable production
- Design panels for transportation, lifting, and on-site erection loads, in addition to in-service loads
- Produce and review structural calculations, drawings, and shop drawings for accuracy and constructability
- Coordinate with the architectural Revit team to integrate structural framing into the building model
- Resolve structural questions on the factory floor and respond to RFIs from production and field teams
- Identify value engineering opportunities that reduce material, labor, or fabrication time without compromising performance
- Help develop and document structural design standards, details, and best practices
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with MWF (Metal Wood Framer) in Revit is required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 5+ years of structural engineering experience, with significant work in light-gauge / cold-formed steel design
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain one in Michigan
- Working knowledge of AISI S100, S240, and S400, ASCE 7, and the IRC/IBC
- Proficiency in Revit; experience with structural analysis software (e.g., RISA, CFS, Enercalc) preferred
- Experience in prefabricated, panelized, modular, or off-site construction strongly preferred
- Residential construction experience a plus
Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of how engineering decisions translate into fabricated components
- High attention to detail in calculations, drawings, and model data
- Ability to balance structural performance with manufacturability and cost
- Clear communication with designers, drafters, and production staff
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once
- Problem-solving mindset in a fast-paced production environment

Onsite at our Grand Rapids, MI manufacturing facility, with regular interaction with design, drafting, and plant operations teams.
