This role involves structural design and analysis, preparation and review of engineering documents, construction observation, quality assurance, and collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams. The Structural Engineer III will also mentor less experienced staff and support senior engineers on larger projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead structural engineering tasks and project components through all phases, from planning and design to construction and completion.
  • Design and analyze foundations, buildings, and other structures using materials such as structural steel, cold-formed steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, design drawings, technical specifications, reports, proposals, and other client deliverables.
  • Perform technical, quality control, and constructability reviews to ensure compliance with applicable codes, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Conduct site assessments, inspections, surveys, and construction observations, including preparation and review of field reports.
  • Coordinate structural design efforts with project managers, architects, civil and mechanical engineers, contractors, clients, and other project team members.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to less experienced engineers and designers.
  • Develop project work-hour estimates, monitor project scope and budgets, and communicate schedule or budget concerns proactively.
  • Assist with project planning, design analysis, engineering calculations, specification development, and technical problem-solving.
  • Support business development and marketing efforts to establish relationships and obtain new clients.
  • Maintain accurate project records, provide regular updates on project schedules and budgets, and complete required administrative tasks.
  • Maintain professional credentials and continuing education requirements.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC-accredited four-year program or an equivalent non-American four-year degree, subject to review.
  • Relevant professional experience based on education:
  • 9+ years with an ABET/EAC-accredited bachelor’s degree and a two-year master’s degree in civil, structural, or architectural engineering.
  • 10+ years with an ABET/EAC-accredited bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, or architectural engineering.
  • 12+ years with a non-American four-year degree, including at least two years of experience in the United States and fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Experience with civil and structural engineering design and analysis, including foundations, buildings, and other structures.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, frame analysis software such as RISA, and component analysis and design software such as L-Pile, ENERCALC, or PCA MATS.
  • Experience developing technical specifications, performing construction observations, and preparing engineering documents for clients.
  • Ability to review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports prepared by other engineers or designers.
  • Familiarity with federal UFC, DoD, and VA criteria, or the ability to learn and apply these standards.
  • Strong technical, analytical, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience training and mentoring staff, coordinating project teams, and supporting project leadership.
  • Interest in business development and building client relationships.
  • Successful completion of the FE and PE exams administered by NCEES, professional engineering licensure in the United States, and an active NCEES record.
  • Passing the two-day Structural Engineering (SE) exam is preferred.
