About 3B Protection
3B Protection is an innovative and rapidly expanding manufacturer and provider of advanced ballistic, blast-resistant, forced-entry-resistant, and fire-rated protection systems for critical infrastructure.
Our engineered solutions protect electrical substations, utility facilities, data centers, battery energy storage systems (BESS), industrial installations, and other high-security environments throughout the United States and internationally.
With expanding manufacturing operations and a growing portfolio of major infrastructure projects, we are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead our engineering department and support the continued growth of our business.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an accomplished structural engineering professional who combines exceptional technical expertise with strong management capabilities and a practical understanding of manufacturing and construction.
Position Overview
The Director of Engineering will be responsible for the overall leadership, management, technical performance, and continued development of 3B Protection's engineering department.
The successful candidate will oversee engineering personnel, structural design, calculations, drawing production, technical reviews, project assignments, and engineering delivery schedules.
This is both a leadership and hands-on technical position. We are seeking someone who can independently manage a busy engineering department while remaining actively involved in structural engineering, design development, and technical problem-solving.
A key objective of the position will be to strengthen our internal engineering capabilities, standardize our proprietary systems, improve engineering efficiency, and expand the volume of engineering work completed in-house.
The Director will work closely with our manufacturing, construction, project management, and executive teams to ensure that engineering deliverables are accurate, practical, cost-effective, and completed within agreed project timelines.
Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering Department Leadership

- Establish engineering priorities, allocate workloads, and oversee daily departmental operations.
- Manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and delivery commitments.
- Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations, and accountability throughout the department.
- Monitor engineering schedules and ensure project milestones are achieved.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering personnel as the department expands.
- Implement effective communication and coordination between engineering, manufacturing, construction, and project management.
- Provide regular departmental performance updates to executive leadership.
Structural Engineering and Technical Oversight
- Lead structural engineering design and analysis for precast concrete ballistic walls, firewalls, security barriers, and protective infrastructure systems.
- Oversee structural calculations, engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design documentation.
- Review and approve structural engineering packages in accordance with applicable codes and professional licensing requirements.
- Design and review reinforced concrete panels, columns, foundations, structural steel, connections, base plates, and anchorage systems.
- Evaluate wind, seismic, gravity, and other applicable structural loading conditions.
- Oversee structural engineering associated with security gates, heavy protective structures, and specialized installations.
- Coordinate technical design requirements with civil, geotechnical, architectural, and other engineering disciplines.
- Provide technical direction on complex structural engineering and constructability issues.
Engineering Quality Control and Drawing Management
- Establish and maintain comprehensive engineering quality assurance and drawing review procedures.
- Ensure engineering submissions are accurate, complete, coordinated, and properly checked before being issued.
- Oversee preparation and delivery of preliminary, 90%, 100%, and final engineering drawing packages.
- Manage engineering revisions, customer comments, technical responses, and resubmissions.
- Ensure that customer-provided drawings, specifications, and project requirements are properly incorporated into engineering packages.

- Improve engineering productivity, resource utilization, and departmental cost efficiency.
- Establish effective procedures for coordinating internal and external engineering resources.
- Manage specialist engineering consultants and independent technical reviewers when required.
- Support the development of scalable engineering systems capable of meeting increasing project demand.
Manufacturing and Construction Support
- Coordinate closely with 3B Protection's manufacturing facilities to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and suitable for production.
- Review precast concrete manufacturing details, reinforcement requirements, lifting arrangements, transportation considerations, and installation methods.
- Support structural engineering for foundations, column connections, base plates, and anchorage systems.
- Work with construction teams to resolve technical questions and installation challenges.
- Review engineering change requests and proposed field modifications.
- Support product development, structural testing, and engineering validation programs.
- Ensure engineering designs consider manufacturing efficiency, transportation, site conditions, and installation requirements.
Project Coordination and Delivery
- Establish realistic engineering schedules and ensure deliverables are completed within agreed timeframes.
- Coordinate engineering priorities across multiple utility, data center, energy storage, and critical infrastructure projects.
- Participate in technical meetings with customers, engineering consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Oversee technical responses to customer comments and engineering review questions.
- Maintain clear communication with Project Managers regarding engineering progress and outstanding requirements.
- Identify potential engineering delays and implement corrective actions before project schedules are affected.
