Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to lead projects involving structural rehabilitation, historic preservation, facility assessments, and adaptive reuse of existing buildings and structures.

This position will focus on evaluating existing structural systems, identifying deficiencies, developing repair and strengthening solutions, and overseeing the rehabilitation and transformation of existing facilities.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in structural engineering consulting, existing building evaluations, restoration, and adaptive reuse, with the ability to independently manage complex engineering projects, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and provide technical leadership.

Projects may include commercial buildings, historic structures, educational facilities, civic buildings, aviation facilities, and other existing infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead structural engineering and design efforts for building rehabilitation, restoration, adaptive reuse, and facility assessment projects.
  • Perform structural evaluations, condition assessments, and field investigations of existing buildings and structures.
  • Identify structural deficiencies, deterioration, damage, and potential safety concerns.
  • Develop structural repair, reinforcement, retrofit, and rehabilitation solutions.
  • Perform structural analysis and engineering calculations for existing and modified structural systems.
  • Prepare detailed structural drawings, specifications, technical reports, and engineering recommendations.
  • Evaluate structural systems involving steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and other building materials.
  • Support historic preservation projects by developing structural solutions that accommodate existing building conditions and preservation objectives.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and building owners throughout project development.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, deliverables, and technical quality.
  • Conduct site visits and provide construction-phase engineering support.
  • Review structural designs, calculations, specifications, and project documentation for compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior engineers and design staff.
  • Assist with resolving field conditions, constructability challenges, and unforeseen structural issues.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and participate in project interviews, presentations, and business development activities.
  • Incorporate sustainable design principles, including preservation and reuse of existing structural systems where appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 7+ years of structural engineering experience within a building design consulting environment.
  • Strong experience with structural analysis, design, and evaluation of existing buildings.
  • Knowledge of structural rehabilitation, repair methods, strengthening techniques, and building modifications.
  • Advanced understanding of structural mechanics, load paths, material behavior, and engineering design principles.
  • Experience working with steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, wood, and other structural systems.
  • Ability to perform structural assessments, prepare engineering reports, and develop technical recommendations.
  • Advanced proficiency in preparing and reviewing structural calculations, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Experience leading engineering projects and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, engineering standards, and construction practices.
  • Ability to independently perform technical reviews and final quality control checks.
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and client expectations.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%, including occasional overnight stays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
  • 12+ years of structural engineering experience.
  • Extensive experience with structural rehabilitation, historic preservation, restoration, and adaptive reuse projects.
  • Experience evaluating aging buildings, deteriorated structural systems, and existing facilities.
  • Background in structural retrofits, strengthening, repairs, and building modifications.
  • Experience with facility condition assessments and forensic structural investigations.
  • Familiarity with existing building codes and structural evaluation requirements.
  • Experience working on commercial, civic, educational, aviation, or historic facilities.
  • Experience serving as a Lead Structural Engineer or Project Manager on complex rehabilitation projects.
  • Strong client relationship management and business development experience.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and overseeing structural design teams.
  • Familiarity with sustainable structural design and embodied carbon reduction initiatives.
