Structural Stick Welder (SMAW) – Bridge Construction

MPW Infrastructure Group is seeking an experienced Structural Stick Welder (SMAW) to join our growing heavy civil construction team.

This position will primarily involve stick welding on bridge construction, bridge rehabilitation, structural steel, and other infrastructure projects throughout Georgia. Candidates must be comfortable working at elevated heights and in active construction environments.

GDOT welding certification is preferred but not required. MPW will assist qualified candidates in obtaining their GDOT certification.

Key Responsibilities

● Perform structural welding, primarily using Stick Welding (SMAW) processes.

● Weld bridge components, structural steel, steel piles, supports, and miscellaneous steel assemblies.

● Perform welding operations at elevated heights, including bridges, scaffolding, and aerial work platforms.

● Perform welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.

● Read and interpret construction drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.

● Prepare, fit, and inspect welded connections to ensure quality workmanship.

● Properly use fall protection equipment and follow all applicable safety procedures.

● Maintain welding equipment, tools, and materials.

● Assist field crews with structural steel installation and other construction activities as needed.

● Follow OSHA, GDOT, and company safety requirements.

Qualifications

● Proven Stick Welding (SMAW) experience required.

● Must be comfortable working at heights, including 30 feet or more, while using appropriate fall protection.

● Structural steel welding experience preferred.

● Bridge construction or heavy civil construction experience is a plus.

● GDOT welding certification preferred but not required.

● Must be willing and able to complete required welding qualification testing.

● Experience welding in vertical and overhead positions.

● Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

● Reliable transportation to project locations throughout Georgia.

● Strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment to safety.
