Regular Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:30 AM–6:00 PM, including a 30-minute unpaid meal period

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Business Development Officer, and in cooperation with school administration and principals, the Student Programs Manager plans, coordinates, implements, evaluates, and helps grow Southlands Christian Schools’ Extended Care, Enrichment, Summer Camp, and other assigned student programs.

The Student Programs Manager is responsible for strong daily operations, staff supervision and development, program quality, parent communication, and ongoing program growth.

The ideal candidate is energetic, creative, organized, proactive, and able to turn ideas into well-run programs. This is a hands-on position that requires active involvement with students, staff, instructors, vendors, and families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee the daily operation of Extended Care, Enrichment, and Summer Camp programs.
  • Coordinate staffing and maintain appropriate staff schedules and student supervision.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, training, supervising, and evaluating department staff in coordination with the Business Development Officer and Human Resources.
  • Provide regular staff training and development, including student supervision, classroom management, safety procedures, customer service, and other program needs.
  • Help establish and maintain the spiritual tone of the department through Christian leadership, prayer, encouragement, and Christ-centered team development.
  • Regularly observe Extended Care, Enrichment classes, and other student programs to evaluate:
  • Student engagement
  • Staff and instructor effectiveness
  • Classroom and behavior management
  • Safety
  • Program organization
  • Overall program quality
  • Provide staff and instructors with constructive feedback, coaching, and support, and make adjustments when programs are not meeting expectations.
  • Build a positive, professional team culture and actively support staff morale.
  • Coordinate Enrichment programs, including instructors, vendors, class schedules, registration, parent communication, and program evaluation.
  • Research and recommend new Enrichment programs based on student and family interest.
  • Evaluate enrollment and program performance to determine which programs should continue, expand, change, or be discontinued.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of Summer Camp, including:
  • Program themes and activities
  • Staffing
  • Scheduling
  • Field trips
  • Vendors and instructors
  • Supplies
  • Parent communication
  • Registration
  • Safety and supervision
  • Begin Summer Camp planning well in advance and maintain a clear planning timeline.
  • Coordinate field trips for Extended Care and Summer Camp, including transportation and required documentation.
  • Work with parents to resolve concerns and maintain positive communication.
  • Follow up promptly on operational issues relating to Extended Care, Enrichment, and Summer Camp.
  • Assist with purchasing program supplies and equipment within approved budgets and maintain appropriate accountability for program resources.
  • Work closely with the Business Development Officer and Accounting to support program budgets, rates, fees, expenses, and financial sustainability.

PROGRAM GROWTH AND PROMOTION

The Student Programs Manager is expected not only to maintain existing programs, but also to actively look for ways to improve and grow them.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring enrollment and participation in Extended Care, Enrichment, and Summer Camp.
  • Identifying opportunities to increase enrollment and student retention.
  • Developing new program ideas and experiences.
  • Listening to student and parent interests and feedback.
  • Working with the Business Development Officer and Marketing team to promote programs throughout the year.
  • Providing program information, photos, activities, success stories, and promotional ideas for marketing.
  • Planning promotional efforts before registration periods rather than waiting until enrollment is low.
  • Looking for creative ways to make programs more attractive to current and prospective families.

The Student Programs Manager should continually be asking:

How can we make this program better?
How can we get more students involved?
What new opportunities can we offer our families?

LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS

The Student Programs Manager is expected to demonstrate initiative and ownership.

This includes:

  • Identifying problems without waiting for administration to point them out.
  • Bringing possible solutions and recommendations.
  • Following through on responsibilities without repeated reminders.
  • Planning ahead and anticipating program needs.
  • Communicating proactively with the Business Development Officer.
  • Supporting, coaching, and developing staff.
  • Maintaining strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Being actively present in programs rather than managing primarily from an office.
  • Continually looking for opportunities to improve program quality and enrollment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Recreation, Business, Organizational Management, Ministry, Hospitality, or related field preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience in after-school programs, summer camps, youth programs, education, recreation, event coordination, or related areas preferred.
  • Experience supervising employees or volunteers preferred.

  • Ability to communicate professionally and patiently with students, parents, guardians, staff, instructors, and vendors.
  • Ability to work effectively with families and students from diverse cultural and language backgrounds.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond calmly to unexpected staffing, scheduling, student, or parent concerns.
  • Basic proficiency with email, Google Workspace, spreadsheets, shared calendars, and other program-management tools.
  • Experience with program promotion, marketing, or enrollment growth preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR certification required or willingness to obtain certification.

CHRISTIAN COMMITMENT AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Must be a professing Christian who supports the mission, Statement of Faith, and values of Southlands Christian Schools.
  • Must demonstrate strong moral character and Christian servant leadership.
  • Must be comfortable praying with staff and students and providing appropriate spiritual encouragement.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities with maturity, tact, flexibility, and professionalism.
  • Dependable, proactive, positive, creative, and solutions-oriented.
  • Able to establish credibility, make appropriate decisions, and support the priorities and expectations of Southlands Christian Schools.

SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a full-time, on-campus position.

Regular Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:30 AM–6:00 PM, including a 30-minute unpaid meal period.

Because Extended Care and Enrichment programs operate primarily in the afternoon, consistent on-campus availability through 6:00 PM is an essential part of the position.

Regular remote work is not part of this position.

During Summer Camp and special program periods, additional hours may be required. All overtime must be approved in advance and will be compensated in accordance with applicable law.
