What they need
About the role:
We are working with a school who are seeking a Classroom Support Assistant to join a specialist setting near Boston, supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, Autism, ADHD, and pupils presenting with complex or "spiky" learning profiles. Many of the students require additional support with emotional regulation, engagement, communication, and developing positive relationships within school.
This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who may have faced barriers to education. The school provides a structured, nurturing environment where relationships are at the centre of everything they do, helping pupils feel safe, understood, and able to achieve success both academically and personally.
The role is available on a full-time basis with an immediate start available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a range of SEND and SEMH needs, adapting your approach to meet individual learning and emotional needs.
- Develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a consistent role model and key adult within the school environment.
- Support students who experience emotional dysregulation, helping them identify triggers, use appropriate coping strategies, and successfully re-engage with learning.
- Assist teachers in delivering personalised and differentiated learning activities that enable pupils to access the curriculum and experience success.
- Promote positive behaviour through restorative, trauma-informed, and relationship-based approaches.
- Support pupils during challenging moments using de-escalation techniques, co-regulation strategies, and calm, consistent communication.
Pre Reqs:
- Experience working with children or young people within SEND, SEMH, education, care, youth work, coaching, mentoring, residential care, or similar support-based environments.
- Understanding of emotional dysregulation and the impact that trauma, anxiety, adverse childhood experiences, and additional needs can have on behaviour and learning.
- Confidence supporting pupils with complex and varied ("spiky") profiles, recognising individual strengths alongside areas requiring additional support.
- Ability to build strong, professional relationships and maintain clear boundaries while remaining empathetic and supportive.
- Experience using behaviour support strategies, restorative approaches, nurture principles, or trauma-informed practice would be highly beneficial.
- Resilience, patience, and a calm approach when supporting pupils during periods of distress of heightened emotions.
- Relevant qualifications in Teaching Assistance, Childcare, Health & Social Care, Youth Work, Psychology, or equivalent transferable experience are desirable but not essential.
