Student Support Worker

About the role

As a Youth Support Officer, you will work closely with tutors, social workers, and whānau to help students succeed both inside and outside the classroom. You will play a vital role in keeping our rangatahi connected by managing daily student transport, offering tailored learning support, and delivering pastoral care.

Key responsibilities

• Student Transportation (Pick-Ups & Drop-Offs): Safely drive a Matapuna van to transport students to and from school daily, assist with after-school activities, and drive rangatahi to key support appointments.
• Classroom & Academic Support: Deliver targeted one-on-one literacy and numeracy support, assist with learning tasks and unit assessments, provide reader/writer support as needed and support class administration and resource creation.
• Pastoral Care & Whānau Engagement: Implement our positive behaviour management processes using restorative practices, assist with student attendance follow-ups, and support engagement with whanau.
• After-School Programme: Help plan, supervise, and facilitate after-school sport and wellbeing activities, ensuring safe student drop-offs afterward.

About you

• Full NZ Driver License: Essential for daily student transport using Matapuna vans.
• Youth Work Experience: Proven ability to build trust, mentor rangatahi, and manage challenging behaviours constructively.
• Cultural Grounding: Strong understanding of Te Ao Māori and Tikanga, with a commitment to working collaboratively with whānau. Fluency in Te Reo Māori is a distinct advantage.
• Team Player: Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with tutors, social workers, and external agencies.
