About the role

As the Sub-Editor / Writer at Jamiyah Singapore, you will be responsible for ensuring the editorial integrity and coherence of publications across both print and digital platforms. This position demands meticulous editing and the creative design of layouts that enhance the readability and visual appeal of content, aligning it with Jamiyah Singapore's mission to inform, engage, and inspire the community. You will collaborate extensively with the editorial team and content contributors to shape and fine-tune articles, reports, and other materials that meet high standards and resonate with readers' interests and organizational goals. By managing quality control of all publications and spearheading innovative content strategies, you will directly contribute to enhancing Jamiyah Singapore's brand as a thought leader in the community.

Key responsibilities

• Meticulously edit and refine all content for both print and digital publications, ensuring textual coherence, language clarity, and adherence to Jamiyah's editorial guidelines.
• Design and prepare page layouts for print editions, and adapt content for digital formats, ensuring visual and textual harmony that enhances reader engagement.
• Ensure factual accuracy and consistency in grammar, style, and tone across all published materials. Fact-check stories and verify sources to maintain high journalistic integrity.
• Work closely with writers, photographers, and other editorial staff to coordinate and curate content. Identify information gaps and refine articles to maximize reader engagement and satisfaction.
• Optimize content for search engines and digital platforms to maximize audience reach and interaction. Implement current SEO best practices to increase online visibility and engagement.
• Ensure all content meets publication deadlines, maintaining high standards of quality and timeliness in a fast-paced editorial environment.
• Participate in the development of content strategies that enhance Jamiyah's online and print presence. Contribute to strategic discussions that align content production with organizational goals.
• Analyze trends in content performance and audience engagement to continuously refine and adapt editorial strategies. Utilize feedback to ensure content meets the evolving needs and preferences of the audience.
• Develop and integrate multimedia elements into both print and digital content to enhance storytelling and reader engagement.
• Stay updated on and ensure compliance with all relevant media laws and regulations that impact publishing.

About you

• Possess a diploma or degree in Journalism, Communications, Arts, or Social Sciences.
• Strong command of English, demonstrating high proficiency in both written and spoken forms.
• Previous experience in editing, writing, or a related journalistic role, with a portfolio that includes a diverse range of print and digital publications.
• A demonstrated understanding of the issues affecting the community and a broader global perspective.
• Highly analytical and creative, adept at identifying significant story angles and producing compelling narratives.
• Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team, aligning editorial work with broader organizational goals.
• Comfortable working under tight deadlines in a dynamic environment, maintaining high standards of content quality.
• Skilled in SEO, data analytics, and digital content optimization, with familiarity in photography and basic video editing.
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
• Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
