Substance Abuse Counselor

The Planning Department is responsible for Planning and Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and consists of a staff of 5 headed by the City Planner. This new position will perform professional planning work involved in receiving, reviewing and processing applications for re-zoning, general and specific plan amendments, use permits, variances, subdivisions, environmental reviews; interpreting and applying provisions of codes and planning policies and standards to applicants and the public; performing analysis and preparation for adoption of new ordinances; interacting with other departments and community groups to develop city policies, procedures or ordinances. The Assistant Planner will also provide information and assistance to developers, property owners and the general public on laws, policies, regulations, for the submission of plans, processing of applications, and implementation of requirements. He/she will conduct research studies and prepare reports and recommendations regarding land use, zoning, subdivisions, urban design, population trends, transportation, housing, redevelopment and community service needs.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in city, regional, or urban planning, architecture, environmental studies or closely related field. Intern or sub-professional planning work experience is desired.

The qualified candidate must be multiple-task capable, self-starting, have good communication skills and be familiar with computer word processing software, and must possess a valid California driver license. He/she must be able to attend evening meetings as needed.
