Student Intern – Duluth Bethel Substance Use Disorders Services

Reports to:     Alcohol and Drug Counselor Supervisor
Status:        Non-Exempt, Full Time/Part Time
Salary:        $15.00 - $19.00 hourly 
Purpose:     Learn how to deliver co-occurring substance use disorder treatment in the Bethel programs in accordance with all Rules, Statutes and Provisions as stipulated under the Minnesota Department of Human Services Statute 245G, licensing and Duluth Bethel Policies and Procedures.

"Student intern" means an individual who is enrolled in a program specializing in alcohol and drug counseling or mental health counseling at an accredited educational institution and is authorized by a licensing board to provide services under supervision of a licensed professional.

Essential Functions

1.    Learn to complete all intake paperwork including initial services plans and vulnerable adult screenings.
2.    Learn to complete comprehensive assessments and summaries, develop and update individual treatment plans, complete weekly treatment plan reviews, provide treatment coordination, and complete insurance forms.
3.    Learn to facilitate education groups, group counseling, and individual counseling.
4.    Learn crisis intervention techniques. 
5.    Learn to complete discharge summaries.
6.    Model good communications with the treatment team and stakeholders.
7.    Maintain positive public relations.

Other Requirements

1.    Must be 18 years of age or older. 
2.    Must be free of problematic substance use for at least two years immediately preceding hiring and must sign a statement testifying to that fact.  
3.    Must meet the following requirements of 245G.11 subd. 10: 
4.    A qualified staff member must supervise and be responsible for a treatment service performed by a student intern and must review and sign each assessment, individual treatment plan, and treatment plan review prepared by a student intern. A student intern must receive the orientation and training required in section 245G.13, subdivisions 1, clause (7), and 2.

Under no circumstances may a student intern discuss any client's past, present, or future situation with anyone outside the employment of the Duluth Bethel.  It is understood that a violation of this policy may be grounds for immediate separation.
