What they need
Senior Electrical Engineer | Substation & Renewable Energy
A well-established renewable energy owner/operator is looking to add a Senior Electrical Engineer to their growing team. This individual will play a key role in overseeing the design, review, and execution of high-voltage substation, transmission, and collection system projects supporting utility-scale solar, wind, and energy storage developments.
Location: The role sits fully-remote with occasional travel to the Houston office.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Lead technical oversight of substation, transmission line, and collection system engineering for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
- Review and guide engineering deliverables including substation layouts, control building designs, grounding plans, conduit and cable routing, AC/DC systems, transmission line arrangements, and construction drawings.
- Support both AIS and GIS substation projects, helping define design standards, engineering approaches, and project execution strategies.
- Manage and review electrical studies including short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, reactive power compensation, insulation coordination, harmonic analysis, system losses, and related power system evaluations.
- Provide technical support throughout project development, construction, commissioning, energization, and ongoing operations.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders, EPC partners, consultants, and field teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards.
- Assist with reliability initiatives, maintenance reviews, NERC compliance efforts, and continuous improvement programs across operating assets.
What They're Looking For:
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience in substation, transmission, power delivery, or renewable energy engineering.
- Active PE license required.
- Strong understanding of medium- and high-voltage substations, protection & controls, transmission systems, and collection system design.
- Experience supporting utility-scale solar, wind, or BESS projects is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with power system analysis tools such as ETAP, CYMCAP, WinIGS, PSCAD, PSS/E, EMTP, CDEGS, or similar software.
- Knowledge of SEL equipment, relay protection systems, and HV operations.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary project teams.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out:
This is an opportunity to join an organization with a significant and growing portfolio of renewable energy assets while remaining heavily involved in the technical side of engineering. The role offers exposure across the full project lifecycle, from development and design through commissioning and operations, while providing a strong mix of leadership, technical challenges, and long-term career growth.
