Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and dependable Substitute Custodian to join our facilities team. In this vital role, you will ensure that our school or facility remains clean, safe, and welcoming for staff, students, and visitors. As a Substitute Custodian, you will step into the position as needed to maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation, supporting the overall operations of our institution. Duties

• Perform general cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and trash removal to maintain cleanliness throughout the facility
• Handle custodial equipment such as floor buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, and cleaning carts with proper safety procedures
• Apply chemical agents safely for cleaning and sanitation purposes in accordance with safety protocols
• Conduct routine inspections of restrooms, classrooms, hallways, and common areas to ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance
• Assist with light maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, minor repairs, or residential painting as needed
• Follow established safety protocols during all custodial activities to prevent accidents or injuries
• Support facilities maintenance efforts by reporting repair needs or safety hazards promptly

Requirements

• Prior janitorial or custodial experience preferred; familiarity with commercial cleaning and floor care is advantageous
• Ability to handle cleaning chemicals safely and follow chemical handling safety procedures
• Physical stamina for manual handling tasks including heavy lifting and safe lifting practices
• Experience operating cleaning equipment such as floor buffers and commercial vacuums
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on sanitation and safety standards
• Excellent customer service skills to interact professionally with staff and visitors when necessary
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
