General Position Summary The Substitute School Nurse supports the health and well-being of Alcuin students and employees by ensuring the consistent delivery of safe, high-quality medical care in alignment with the School’s policies and procedures. This position provides short-term or as-needed coverage when the School Nurse is unavailable and reports to the Associate Head of School for Institutional Advancement.

JOB SCOPE The Alcuin Substitute School Nurse will address the clinical needs of students ranging in age from 18 months to 18 years under the direction of the School Nurse.

Essential Functions

• Health Services & Care

• Provide appropriate first aid or medical attention to students, faculty, and staff

• Exercise clinical judgement in triage of illness or injury to students and respond with appropriate intervention methods using aseptic techniques and proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

• Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to physician instructions and school protocols

• Document all visits, and care provided in the student health record system accurately and confidentially

• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student illness, injury, or follow-up recommendations

• Support ongoing care plans for students with chronic health conditions under the direction of the School Nurse

• Health Office Operations

• Maintain the organization, cleanliness, and readiness of the Health Office

• Update charts, forms, and documentation for follow-up care

• Document supplies used while on duty for restock or replacement purposes

• Collaboration & Communication

• Serve as a compassionate, professional resource for students, parents, faculty, and staff regarding medical concerns

• Uphold confidentiality and respect for all members of the community

• School Support

• Support Alcuin’s mission, Montessori–IB philosophy, and commitment to student wellness

• Perform other duties as assigned by the School Nurse or administrative leadership
