Substitute Teacher

This is an "as-needed" position, with opportunities to convert to permanent status in the near future. Substitute Teachers are responsible for assisting in classrooms when teachers are absent or when help is needed; this includes:

• Conducting supervision of children's activities both indoors and outdoors

• Assisting the teacher in maintaining an orderly learning environment

• Assisting with small group activities under the direction of the teacher

• Participating in family-style dining with the children

• Assisting in classrooms with helping children fall asleep during naptime

• Assisting with the implementation of the curriculum

• Assisting with diaper-changing, potty-training, and personal hygiene

• Helping out in other areas of the center, such as la cocina, la cocinita, the laundry room, playgrounds, and the front office

• Caring for children who are ill or who are excluded from classroom activity

• Helping to ensure the center is clean and orderly

• Ad hoc cleaning, i.e., mopping up a spill or organizing a closet

• Following Minimum Standards for Child Care Licensing at all times

• Maintaining the required level of training hours with the required documentation

The Scheduler will contact substitutes to fulfill a “job” as needed. The Substitute must notify the Scheduler right away if he/she is able and willing to commit to such “job”. Substitutes must give 24 hours' notice for any job cancellation. The Substitute must report at the time indicated by the Scheduler. Do not arrive earlier or later than the job assignment report time. If you know of any reason you cannot report on time, it is critical to notify the Scheduler as soon as possible.
