Substitute UPK Teachers

Position Overview

Malverne Afterschool Center (MAC) is seeking qualified, reliable, and experienced Substitute UPK Teachers to join our early childhood education team.

We are building a pool of substitute teachers to provide classroom coverage during planned and unexpected staff absences at our UPK locations.

The ideal candidates are passionate about early childhood education, demonstrate strong classroom management skills, and can maintain a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for four-year-old children.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement established lesson plans and daily classroom routines to ensure instructional continuity.
• Deliver developmentally appropriate learning activities aligned with the New York State Prekindergarten Learning Standards.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment.
• Supervise children during instructional activities, transitions, meals, rest periods, and outdoor play.
• Promote positive behavior, social-emotional development, and age-appropriate independence.
• Collaborate with teaching assistants, UPK leadership, and school administrators.
• Follow all applicable NYSED, school district, OCFS, and MAC policies and procedures.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and report student incidents or concerns promptly.
• Ensure appropriate supervision and adherence to classroom safety protocols.
• Maintain student confidentiality and professional communication.

Qualifications

Required:

• Experience working with preschool or prekindergarten-aged children in an educational setting.
• Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to implement instructional plans and maintain established classroom routines.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with classroom staff.
• Successful completion of all applicable background checks, fingerprinting, and required clearances before beginning work.
• Eligibility to serve as a substitute teacher under applicable NYSED, school district, and program requirements.

Preferred:

• New York State teaching certification in Early Childhood Education (Birth–Grade 2).
• Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Child Development, or a related field.
• Prior experience teaching in a Universal Pre-Kindergarten program.
• Familiarity with New York State Prekindergarten Learning Standards.
• Experience supporting children with diverse developmental and learning needs.

Scheduling and Availability

• Substitute assignments are available on an as-needed basis, Monday through Friday.
• Opportunities may include planned teacher absences and short-notice classroom coverage.
• Candidates should be flexible and willing to accept assignments at either UPK location.
• Placement and scheduling will depend on program needs, qualifications, and availability.
