SUMMER 2027 INTERNSHIP

LS Black Constructors | Corporate Headquarters | 3-Month Internship | $23.00 per Hour

SUMMARY OF POSITION

LS Black Constructors is looking for motivated students to join our team for a 3-month paid internship based out of our Corporate Headquarters. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience across field engineering, estimating, and project management in a fast-paced environment.

Interns will be embedded with experienced project and preconstruction teams, contributing to meaningful work from day one while developing foundational skills in construction operations. This role is ideal for students who are eager to learn, take initiative, and explore what a career in commercial construction looks like from the inside.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Field Engineering

• Assist with construction document control and processing of RFIs, submittals, and ASIs.
• Support daily project coordination and field reporting utilizing project management software.
• Help manage the collection, tracking, and distribution of submittals.
• Assist with publishing meeting agendas and minutes.
• Participate in site visits and field observations alongside project staff.

Estimating & Preconstruction

• Assist with quantity takeoffs and basic estimate preparation under the guidance of senior estimating staff.
• Support subcontractor and supplier bid solicitation and coordination.
• Help maintain the estimating database and invitation-to-bid software.
• Learn to read and interpret project specifications, drawings, and plans.

Project Management Support

• Support project managers with scheduling coordination, budget tracking, and administrative tasks.
• Assist with change order documentation and compliance tracking.
• Participate in project meetings and help prepare meeting materials.
• Assist with procurement of construction materials and vendor coordination.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Currently enrolled in a 4-year Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related degree program (second or third year preferred), or a 2-year construction-related program (first or second year preferred).
• Genuine interest in commercial construction and a desire to explore multiple areas of the business. Strong communication skills - both written and verbal- - and a professional, team-oriented attitude.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage time effectively in a busy environment.
• Self-motivated and eager to take on new challenges with minimal hand-holding.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Procore or construction software is a plus but not required.
• Ability to work on-site at corporate headquarters for the duration of the internship or on a local project site.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Sitting, standing, bending, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Occasional visits to construction sites where temperatures and noise levels may fluctuate; ability to see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and site personnel.
