Job Title:                              Superintendent

Reports To:                          General Superintendent / Field Operations Manager

Payroll Status:                     Exempt

Location:                             Minneapolis, MN / Twin Cities project sites

Hours:                                 Full Time

Why Ancoats

Ancoats is a construction management firm grounded in simplicity and built with trust. We are builders, but service is our product - and the experience we create for clients is what sets us apart. We want to be more than a construction partner; we want to be the team clients trust to help them grow, solve problems, and create spaces that support their mission.

As Ancoats continues to grow, we are looking for people who want to help build something with us - people who take the lead from every seat, stay curious, own their commitments, and care deeply about the quality of the work and the relationships behind it.

Why This Role Matters

The superintendent shapes the daily experience of a project. Clear plans, a safe and organized site, thoughtful coordination, and consistent follow-through allow trade partners to do their best work and give clients confidence in the team.

We are looking for a field leader who anticipates challenges, communicates early, and takes ownership of the details. This person will work closely with project management, trade partners, owners, and design teams to deliver quality work and build lasting relationships.

Job Summary

The Superintendent leads day-to-day onsite construction operations for Ancoats commercial projects. The role is responsible for coordinating trade partners, maintaining project schedules, enforcing safety and quality standards, managing field documentation, and resolving issues with the project team. Projects are primarily located in the Twin Cities; travel requirements vary by project.

Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership and Safety

  • Lead daily construction operations, jobsite oversight, trade coordination, safety, quality control, and site cleanliness.

  • Execute and enforce the Ancoats safety program, including orientations, weekly site audits, toolbox talks, and planning for high-risk activities.

  • Identify quality or safety concerns in the field and work with the project team and trade partners to resolve them promptly.

  • Build productive relationships with owners, design partners, trade partners, and the Ancoats team.

Scheduling and Project Coordination

  • Develop and maintain the project master schedule, update it monthly, and produce and distribute a three-week look-ahead schedule each week.

  • Communicate schedule, specification, and sequencing requirements in time for trade partners and suppliers to plan their work.

  • Coordinate material deliveries, procurement milestones, inspections, permits, utilities, and site logistics.

  • Track changes and field issues, communicate schedule and potential cost impacts to the project management team, and help maintain the overall completion date.

Preconstruction and Project Startup

  • Review design documents for constructability, logistics, code, and accessibility concerns; develop RFIs and communicate gaps to the project team.

  • Support estimating and pursuits with schedules, logistics planning, bidder input, and review of trade scope assignments.

  • Lead site mobilization and develop project-specific logistics and safety plans.

Communication and Closeout

  • Lead field coordination meetings with trade partners and communicate daily with the project management team.

  • Maintain daily reports, progress photos, safety documentation, inspection records, and other required onsite project records.

  • Help manage the RFI process, coordinate pre-punch walks and punch lists, and lead field activities through project closeout.

Education and Experience

  • At least five years of commercial construction experience required.

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management, construction engineering, civil engineering, architectural engineering, or a related field, or at least eight years of trade experience required.

  • Knowledge of building codes, OSHA regulations, and commercial construction safety practices; OSHA 30 training.

  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to manage field documentation, procurement needs, preconstruction meetings, and pre-installation meetings.
