  The School District of Ashland is seeking a dynamic, instructional leader who embodies our Mission to "Dream. Believe. Achieve" by "Inspiring and engaging, every student, every day."

  The Superintendent serves the School District of Ashland campus, which includes the following locations:

  • Lake Superior Elementary School (grades 4K-5) - with approximately 382 students and 63 staff members.
  • Marengo Valley Elementary School (grades 4K-5) - with approximately 179 students and 26 staff members.
  • Ashland Middle School (grades 6-8) - with approximately 449 students and 71 staff members.
  • Ashland High School (grades 9-12) - with approximately 674 students and 96 staff members.

  Innovation will be the key to success in Ashland schools. Project-based learning, trauma-sensitive practices, 1:1 instructional technology, enhanced learning spaces and data-informed, continuous improvement practices are all embraced in the Ashland schools.

  The Ashland school community is rich in its diversity, educational institutions and outdoor recreation opportunities. The school district encompasses 500 square miles including the City of Ashland and several outlying townships. The City of Ashland is a community of about 8,000 residents with another 8,000 in the outlying townships. Ashland is home to Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College and Northland College, both of which have strong relationships with Ashland schools. The community is supportive of education, athletics and the arts. In April of 2016, the community passed a $34 million building referendum to update all schools in the District and add new educational spaces and a 60,000 square foot field house. The community is diverse in racial, socioeconomic and political demographics.

  The Superintendent of Schools serves as the District's Chief Executive Officer and is responsible to bring reports and recommendations on the work for the District to the Board of Education. The Superintendent is to provide leadership to improve student learning by developing a collective District vision and shaping District culture; develop procedures for working with the Board of Education to define mutual expectations; articulate District purpose and priorities to the community and align constituencies in support of District priorities; demonstrate executive leadership by establishing operational plans and processes; oversee the design of effective curriculum, instruction, and assessment systems; implement an instructional management system to maximize student outcomes; apply effective staff development, supervision, and evaluation models; and understand and model appropriate value systems, ethics, and moral leadership.

  Qualifications:
  The successful candidate for this position should possess the ability to foster a professional learning community and engage staff in creating a positive and dynamic learning environment that is focused on student achievement. The successful candidate must possess a State of Wisconsin School Superintendent's DPI license or must be eligible to obtain the proper licensure.
