What they need

About Us

At Alliance Group, we’re more than a global supplier of exceptional grass-fed lamb, beef and venison. We’re a purpose-driven business committed to driving prosperity for our farming families and creating thriving environments for our people. With sites across the North and South Islands, we’re focused on performance improvement, innovation and reducing our environmental impact.

At our Mataura processing site, you’ll join a proud Southland team and play an important part in producing high-quality food for customers in New Zealand and around the world.

The Role

This is a night shift position and a hands-on leadership role at the heart of our Primary Processing operation. Reporting to the Production Manager – Primary Processing, you’ll lead the Abattoir team to deliver safe, efficient and consistent results while building capability and creating a positive day-to-day experience for your people.

You’ll have the opportunity to make a visible impact—improving performance, strengthening safety and quality, developing others and helping a key part of the Mataura site run at its best.

Key Responsibilities

·         Lead, coach and organise the Abattoir team to meet production, quality and cost targets, with clear expectations, regular feedback and recognition.

·         Plan staffing, training and resources to build a capable, engaged and accountable team for current and future demands.

·         Keep food safety, product quality, environmental and health and safety requirements central to daily decisions, addressing risks and non-compliance promptly.

·         Support reliable plant performance and continuous improvement by monitoring equipment needs and strengthening processes and ways of working.

·         Work constructively with management, other departments, union representatives and site visitors to keep communication clear and operations running smoothly.

About You

You’re a practical, people-focused leader who remains calm under pressure, communicates clearly and follows through. You enjoy helping others succeed and are comfortable balancing day-to-day production needs with safety, quality and longer-term improvement.

You will bring:

·         At least two years’ experience in food manufacturing, ideally in a fast-paced processing environment.

·         At least one year’s experience leading or supervising people.

·         A practical understanding of workplace health and safety and food safety requirements.

·         Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

·         Sound judgement, personal accountability and a solutions-focused approach.

·         Confidence using Microsoft Office and other workplace systems.

·         Year 13-level education or an equivalent level of learning and experience.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

·         Experience in the red meat industry.

·         A relevant tertiary qualification in food manufacturing or a related field.

·         Experience working constructively with unions or in an industrial environment.

What We Offer

·         Health insurance subsidies for you and your family.

·         One additional week of annual leave.

·         Ongoing support, training and career development opportunities.

·         Access to our Employee Assistance Programme.

·         On-site health services.

·         A role where your leadership can make a genuine difference every day.
