Supervisor – Polishing, Sandblasting & Cleaning

Job Purpose

Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of Polishing, Sandblasting, and Ultrasonic Cleaning processes. Ensure production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are met while leading, training, and developing the technician team. Act as the primary floor-level technical resource for process troubleshooting and operator support.

Key Responsibilities & Job Description1. Production & Manpower Management

• Plan and allocate daily tasks across polishing, sandblasting, and cleaning stations to meet production schedules and delivery targets
• Manage operator shift scheduling, attendance, and manpower allocation based on production demand
• Monitor work-in-process (WIP) flow and ensure timely movement of parts through finishing and cleaning stages
• Prepare daily production reports and track output against targets

2. Process Supervision & Technical Support

• Oversee process parameters for polishing, sandblasting, and ultrasonic cleaning to ensure consistency and quality
• Provide hands-on technical support and first-level troubleshooting for equipment and process issues on the floor
• Ensure operators follow approved SOPs, work instructions, and process parameter sheets
• Select and verify correct abrasives, blasting media, polishing compounds, and cleaning chemicals for each job

3. Quality Control

• Conduct incoming and outgoing parts inspection to ensure surface finish meets specifications
• Monitor and enforce strict handling protocols to prevent scratches, contamination, and surface damage
• Collaborate with QA/QC to contain and troubleshoot surface defects, and implement corrective actions
• Maintain quality records and documentation as required

4. Equipment & Maintenance Coordination

• Monitor equipment condition and coordinate with Maintenance for preventive maintenance and breakdown resolution
• Supervise autonomous maintenance activities and report abnormalities
• Track and manage consumables (polishing pads, blasting media, chemicals, DI water) to control usage and cost

5. Safety, 5S & Compliance

• Enforce mandatory use of PPE (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirators)
• Ensure safe chemical handling, storage, and disposal in compliance with EHS regulations
• Maintain excellent 5S standards across the finishing and cleaning areas

6. Team Leadership & Development

• Supervise, coach, and motivate a team of polishing, sandblasting, and cleaning technicians
• Conduct skills assessments and execute structured training programs
• Manage team performance, discipline, and adherence to company policies
• Maintain training matrix and coordinate employee development activities

7. Continuous Improvement

• Drive initiatives to reduce cycle time, rework, and consumable cost
• Identify bottlenecks and propose process improvement actions
• Support new equipment introduction and process optimization projects

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Minimum SPM/Diploma; Technical/Trade qualification in metal finishing, mechanical, or related field advantageous
• Experience: Minimum 3–5 years’ hands-on experience in polishing, sandblasting, ultrasonic cleaning, or metal surface finishing; prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred
• Technical Knowledge:
• Understanding of polishing compounds, buffing pads, blasting media, and cleaning chemicals
• Ability to identify and correct surface defects (scratches, swirl marks, uneven texture, contamination)
• Familiarity with polishing equipment, sandblasting systems, and ultrasonic cleaning machines
• Safety: Knowledge of PPE requirements, chemical safety, and EHS regulations
• Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, team leadership, communication across shop floor and management levels, problem-solving under production pressure
• Physical: Able to perform hands-on work when required; willing to work shifts/overtime
