POSITION OVERVIEW – Supplier Quality Engineer I
You'll be the link between our suppliers and our factory, making sure the parts and materials we receive are good enough to build with. When a supplier sends something that doesn't match the drawing, you'll review it, decide whether it can still be used, and work with engineering and the supplier to settle it. You'll help qualify suppliers for hot gas path parts and post-cast processes, run root cause investigations when parts come back, and push suppliers to fix problems for good. It's a high-visibility role where your calls affect product reliability, safety, and customer satisfaction.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Supplier Deviation Request (SDR) Management

  • Own the end-to-end SDR process, from intake and technical review to dispositioning and closure
  • Evaluate supplier deviations for engineering acceptability and assess risk to product performance
  • Collaborate with design engineering, materials, and manufacturing teams to drive timely SDR resolution
  • Track SDR metrics and identify trends to proactively reduce repeat deviations
  • Ensure SDR documentation meets regulatory and internal quality standards

Hot Gas Path Qualifications

  • Assist in the qualification of hot gas path components, ensuring they meet stringent performance and safety requirements
  • Support post-cast qualification activities, including dimensional inspections, metallurgical evaluations, and process validation
  • Review and approve supplier qualification documentation packages
  • Partner with engineering teams to define qualification criteria
  • Monitor ongoing supplier performance against qualified process parameters

Supplier Returns & Corrective Actions

  • Manage the supplier return process for non-conforming materials and components
  • Conduct root cause analysis investigations in partnership with suppliers
  • Initiate and track Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) to drive accountability
  • Verify the effectiveness of corrective actions and validate closure of quality escapes
  • Maintain accurate return and non-conformance records for audit readiness

Additional Quality Engineering Responsibilities

  • Conduct supplier audits and assessments (onsite and remote) to evaluate quality systems
  • Support new supplier onboarding and qualification activities
  • Participate in cross-functional teams for new product introduction (NPI) quality planning
  • Drive supplier quality improvement initiatives using Six Sigma, 8D, and lean methodologies
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of internal quality processes and tools

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, Industrial, Manufacturing, or a related field, including Supply Chain)
  • 1+ years in supplier quality engineering, quality assurance, or a closely related manufacturing quality role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to translate technical findings into actionable supplier feedback
  • Proficiency with quality data tools (e.g., SAP QM, Minitab, or similar) and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willingness to travel to supplier sites as needed (estimated 10% or less)

Preferred

  • Experience with investment casting or superalloy materials
  • Prior experience in gas turbine, aerospace, or power generation industries
  • Familiarity with GD&T, CMM inspection, and NDE methods
  • Strong understanding of casting processes, metallurgy, and/or hot gas path component manufacturing
  • Proven experience with root cause analysis tools (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, FMEA)

MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • 1+ years in supplier quality, quality assurance, or manufacturing quality
  • Proficiency with quality data tools (SAP QM, Minitab, or similar) and Microsoft Office
  • Willingness to travel to supplier sites (10% or less)
