What they need

Lead Solution Architect – Supply Chain Systems

We’re looking for an exceptional Lead Solution Architect, for an initial six month contract, to play a pivotal role in a major transformation of a complex, high-volume supply chain and logistics operation.

Working clsoely with the CTO and the wider business, you'll help define what the future technology landscape should look like, selecting the right enterprise Warehouse Management System (WMS) and designing how order management, warehousing, transport planning, carrier platforms and customer-facing systems work together.

It’s a rare opportunity to influence technology selection before the answers have already been decided, and then help take that architecture from discovery and design through to implementation and live operation.

The Opportunity

At the heart of the programme is the need to create a modern, connected supply chain ecosystem spanning orders, warehouses and transport. You’ll work closely with operational leaders, technology teams, suppliers and delivery partners to understand how the business operates today and translate that into a clear target architecture.

A major part of the role will be assessing the enterprise WMS market, defining requirements, evaluating potential solutions, challenging vendors and determining which platform genuinely fits the operation. From there, you’ll own the architecture that connects the wider ecosystem together.

Day-to-day, you'll:

  • Lead the architecture across WMS, OMS, TMS and wider supply chain systems
  • Help lead the evaluation and selection of a new enterprise Warehouse Management System
  • Map complex operational processes, systems, integrations and data flows
  • Define the future-state architecture and clear system boundaries
  • Design integrations between order platforms, customer portals, WMS, transport planning and carrier/fleet systems
  • Work through real-world operational complexity including split shipments, collections, cancellations, returns, carrier cut-offs and delivery exceptions
  • Define how orders, inventory, consignments, parcels, loads and delivery statuses remain synchronised
  • Establish robust integration patterns across APIs, EDI, messaging and event-driven architecture
  • Challenge vendors on capability, integration, customisation and fit
  • Guide internal teams and technology partners through design, testing, migration, cutover and go-live
  • Ensure the architecture works not just technically, but in a live, high-volume logistics environment

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running, start quickly and most importantly combines strong architecture capability with genuine supply chain knowledge and ideally have:

  • Significant experience designing and implementing enterprise WMS solutions
  • Experience within 3PL, logistics, e-commerce fulfilment, parcel networks, multi-site warehousing, own-fleet operations or warehouse automation would be particularly valuable.
  • Taken a major WMS implementation through to production go-live
  • Strong understanding of warehouse processes including receiving, inventory, replenishment, picking, packing, dispatch and returns
  • Experience integrating WMS with order management and transport/TMS platforms
  • Strong knowledge of transport planning and execution processes
  • Experience evaluating enterprise software, running fit-gap exercises or supporting technology/vendor selection
  • Strong integration architecture experience across APIs, EDI, messaging and complex data flows
  • The ability to operate comfortably with both senior technology stakeholders and frontline operational teams
