This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and Team Leaders to support residents with their daily living, personal care, independence, wellbeing and individual goals.

You will be expected to build positive relationships with residents, promote their dignity and independence, and ensure that care is delivered in accordance with individual care plans, risk assessments and Marina Lodge's policies and procedures.

The Role

As a Support Care Worker, you will provide day-to-day care and support to residents, helping them maintain their independence while ensuring their safety, dignity and wellbeing.

You will be expected to work as part of the wider care team, communicate effectively with colleagues and report any changes or concerns promptly.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing safe, compassionate and person-centred care and support.
  • Supporting residents to maintain their independence and undertake as much self-care as possible.
  • Providing personal care where required, including bathing, washing, shaving, oral hygiene, hair care, dressing, undressing, toileting and continence support.
  • Maintaining residents' dignity, privacy, choice and respect at all times.
  • Obtaining appropriate consent before providing care, treatment or support.
  • Following individual care plans, risk assessments and agreed support strategies.
  • Supporting residents with meals, snacks and drinks, including assistance with eating and drinking where required.
  • Supporting residents with meaningful activities, daily routines and community access where appropriate.
  • Completing domestic duties where required, including cleaning, laundry, changing bed linen, washing dishes and waste disposal.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and comfortable environment and following infection control, health and safety and COSHH procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely care records using electronic care-recording systems.
  • Reporting changes in residents' needs, wellbeing or behaviour to senior staff.
  • Recognising and reporting safeguarding concerns, abuse, neglect or exploitation in accordance with organisational procedures.
  • Reporting accidents, incidents and other concerns promptly and accurately.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries at all times.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, families and relevant professionals where appropriate.
  • Participating in handovers, team meetings, supervision, training and competency assessments.
  • Working within the limits of your training, competence and authorisation and seeking guidance when required.
  • Supporting the delivery of safe, effective, caring, responsive and person-centred care in line with Marina Lodge's policies and CQC requirements.

About You

We are looking for a reliable, professional and compassionate care worker with relevant experience or qualifications in health and social care. You will need to be confident working with sensitive information, maintaining accurate digital records and following care plans, policies and procedures.

You should have a genuine commitment to providing safe, respectful and person-centred support, alongside the ability to communicate effectively with residents, colleagues and other professionals.

Essential experience and skills:

  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent and/or relevant higher education qualification in a Health and Social Care Subject.
  • Previous experience working in health or social care or a similar setting.
  • Willingness to complete the Care Certificate, where applicable.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant NVQ/QCF Health and Social Care qualifications where required.
  • Experience in handling sensitive data and understanding of confidentiality & data security when using digital systems.
  • Good ability to use email, smartphones/tablets and electronic care-recording systems.
  • Ability to accurately record and update information electronically.

Desirable:

  • Experience providing personal care.
  • NVQ/QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting individuals with mental health needs or complex behaviours.
  • Experience using electronic care planning or digital care-recording systems.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, GDPR, CQC requirements, the Mental Capacity Act and person-centred care.
  • Relevant training such as moving and handling, medication, infection prevention and control, first aid or nutrition and hydration.
  • Full UK driving licence.

  • A supportive working environment within a small, specialist mental health care setting.
  • Training and development opportunities.
  • Support to complete mandatory training and relevant care qualifications.

  • A varied and rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference to residents' lives.
