What they need

The Role

Based in Rhondda, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running and development of our support services.

You will help ensure that people accessing the foodbank receive a warm welcome, appropriate support and, where possible, connections to other organisations and services that can help them address the issues they are facing.

You will work closely with volunteers, referral agencies, community organisations, and the wider foodbank team to ensure our service is safe, inclusive, and effective.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day delivery of the foodbank's client support service in Rhondda.
  • Ensure clients are welcomed with dignity, kindness and respect.
  • Support clients to identify their immediate needs and, where appropriate, signpost or refer them to relevant agencies and community services.
  • Build positive relationships with referral organisations, local charities and community groups.
  • Recruit, support, coordinate and encourage foodbank volunteers.
  • Provide guidance and support to volunteers dealing with clients.
  • Help develop and maintain effective support procedures and safeguarding practices.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records and information.
  • Identify recurring issues affecting local residents and feed these into the development of our services.
  • Help ensure the foodbank operates in an inclusive, non-judgemental and trauma-informed manner.
  • Support outreach and community activities across the Rhondda where required.
  • Contribute to monitoring, evaluation and reporting for trustees and funders.
  • Help develop the foodbank's services as the organisation grows.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Compassionate, approachable and non-judgemental.
  • An excellent communicator who can build trust with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Organised and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Comfortable working with volunteers and community partners.
  • Able to deal sensitively with people experiencing poverty, financial hardship or other challenging circumstances.
  • Confident maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Able to work independently while also being a strong team player.
  • Committed to equality, dignity and inclusion.
  • Passionate about making a positive difference in the local community.

Desirable Experience

Experience of working in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage:

  • Foodbanks or community organisations
  • Advice, support or advocacy services
  • Volunteer management
  • Safeguarding
  • Poverty or welfare support
  • Housing, benefits or debt advice
  • Charity or voluntary-sector work

We are more interested in finding the right person who shares our values than in ticking every box. If you have transferable skills and a genuine commitment to supporting people, we would encourage you to apply.

Pay: £18,500.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Company pension
  • Sick pay

Application question(s):

  • Do you have experience managing or supporting a team, handling challenging situations, and ensuring people receive a high standard of support?
  • Are you committed to person-centred support, treating everyone with dignity and respect, and promoting independence, safeguarding, and wellbeing?
  • Are you willing and able to meet the practical requirements of the role, including the required working hours, staff management, record-keeping, compliance, and dealing with urgent issues when necessary?
