Wycliffe Associates is a ministry, and our mission of Bible translation is a special calling. Wycliffe Associates trains Christians all over the world to become Bible translators, and we seek to safeguard the integrity of the Scriptures through that process. While specific skills and experience are a major part of this role, what is most important to Wycliffe Associates, and to the Lord, is a person’s heart. The person who fills this role should have a special calling from the Lord for ministry. In this role, you are considered a minister of the gospel. For such a high calling, our lives and values should reflect that pure and holy calling. As we are told in 1 Peter 1: 15-16, “But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’”

Position Summary The Theological Reviewer evaluates Wycliffe Associates resources for biblical fidelity and doctrinal integrity as part of the resource credentialing process. This position works alongside the Editorial Reviewer to confirm that a resource is sound before it is credentialed for use. Each resource requires review by two Theological Reviewers. In this role, you will help ensure excellence in the resources WA creates for the global church to see a Bible in every language.

Job Responsibilities The Theological Reviewer confirms that a resource's content is consistent with Scripture and with WA's doctrinal standards. The reviewer identifies theological problems, explains why they are problems, and recommends corrections. The reviewer does not rewrite the resource or assume ownership of it.

**Specific Responsibilities**

  • Evaluate whether biblical claims in a resource accurately represent Scripture and are interpreted responsibly in context.
  • Evaluate whether a resource's explicit and implicit theological statements are consistent with WA's Statement of Faith and WA's Doctrinal Standards for Resource Review.
  • Identify wording, explanations, examples, or applications that could create theological ambiguity or distortion, even where no single statement is false.
  • Distinguish between matters governed by WA's doctrinal standards, legitimate theological differences within those standards, and personal theological preference.
  • Provide required corrections and recommendations for improving theological precision, with an explanation tied to the applicable standard.
  • Coordinate with the Editorial Reviewer when a concern involves both theological accuracy and clarity of expression.
  • Maintain working familiarity with WA's Statement of Faith, Doctrinal Standards for Resource Review, and relevant Bible translation principles.
  • Apply WA's doctrinal standards consistently, and distinguish those standards from personal theological preference.

Education, Prior Work Experience, And/or Specialized Skills And Knowledge Minimum of a Master's degree (MA) in Theology, or an equivalent level of theological training and experience. Demonstrated competence in biblical studies, theological analysis, and biblical interpretation. Familiarity with WA's Statement of Faith and Doctrinal Standards for Resource Review, or willingness to be trained in these standards.

Other Qualifications

  • Has a personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ, and exhibits Christ-like behavior.
  • Must be in full agreement with and abide by the WA Employee Handbook, Statement of Faith and Doctrinal Supplement, Doctrinal Standards for Resource Review, WA Statement on Marriage and Human Sexuality, and Ethical Standards Agreement, as well as other organizational commitments and policies.

Disclaimer Wycliffe Associates makes employment decisions in accordance with applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations. As a religious organization, we are entitled to make employment decisions on the basis of religious beliefs and practices of the applicant or employee.
