Support Teacher – Buff/Rocsci School

Position Summary

Buff/Rocsci School seeks a Support Teacher to provide extra instruction and learning support to students who need it. The support teacher works alongside classroom teachers and families to help students build skills, meet learning goals, and take part fully in the school day.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide small-group and one-on-one instruction in reading, writing, math, or other areas of need, in the classroom or in a separate setting.
• Plan lessons that match each student's skill level, goals, and learning style.
• Carry out Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 plans, and academic intervention plans, including required accommodations and modifications.
• Assess student progress regularly and keep data on growth and needs.
• Work with classroom teachers on planning, co-teaching, and adapting materials.
• Take part in student support, Committee on Special Education (CSE), and parent meetings.
• Communicate with families about student progress and ways to help at home.
• Support positive behavior and use classroom strategies that help students stay engaged.
• Keep accurate, confidential records and meet all reporting deadlines.
• Follow school safety procedures and take part in staff meetings and professional development.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
• Valid teaching certification [insert required certification, e.g., Students with Disabilities or the appropriate grade level].
• Experience teaching or tutoring elementary-age students, including student teaching.
• Knowledge of instructional strategies for students with diverse learning needs.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to pass required background checks and fingerprint clearance.

• Master's degree or additional certification in special education, literacy, or a related area.
• Experience with Response to Intervention (RTI) or Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
• Familiarity with assessment tools and progress-monitoring software.
• Training in positive behavior supports or crisis prevention.
• Patience, creativity, and a student-centered approach.

Working Conditions and How to Apply

The work takes place in an elementary school setting and involves standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, moving between classrooms, and occasionally helping students safely during behavioral incidents.
