Support Teacher (unqualified) – ECE – College term only
We are looking for a caring and enthusiastic Support Teacher to join our team at Te Pito o te Puna Wai o Waipapa – Hagley Community Preschool in term 1, 2027.
We are a small, community-based preschool located on the Hagley College campus in central Ōtautahi Christchurch. Our tamariki and whānau come from a rich range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, including many former refugee and migrant families.
About the role
As a Support Teacher, you will work alongside our qualified kaiako to support:
· Tamariki – their learning, wellbeing, relationships and participation
· Kaiako – with day-to-day teaching, routines, learning experiences and care
· Whānau – building positive, respectful relationships and supporting communication
Our commitment to providing an inclusive, culturally responsive and welcoming environment for everyone.
This is a hands-on role where you will be part of a collaborative teaching team and contribute to creating a safe, nurturing and engaging environment for children aged 0–5 years.
Minimum of 12 hours per week, with the opportunity for additional hours by agreement.
About you

· Is warm, patient, reliable and respectful
· Works well as part of a team
· Values diversity and is interested in working with families from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds
· Is willing to learn and contribute to an inclusive ECE environment
· Communicates positively and respectfully with tamariki, whānau and colleagues.
A New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 3) or equivalent is preferred, although we are also interested in hearing from people with relevant experience and a genuine commitment to supporting tamariki and whānau.
Your language and culture are valued
The ability to speak a home language other than English would be an advantage. In particular, we would welcome applications from people who speak:
Somali • Arabic • Farsi • Pashtu • Tigrinya • Amharic
Your language and cultural knowledge can make a meaningful difference in helping tamariki and whānau feel that they belong, are understood and are valued.
