Support whānau to navigate ACC and move forward in their recovery.
Hoani Waititi Marae is seeking an ACC Navigator (Junior) to join our Te Ara Tūhono service.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone beginning their career in whānau navigation, hauora or social services who is keen to learn, grow and make a meaningful difference alongside whānau.
Working within a marae environment, you will help whānau understand and navigate ACC processes, access the services and entitlements available to them and stay connected throughout their recovery journey.
You do not need to know everything about ACC from day one. We are looking for someone with the right values, strong people skills and a genuine willingness to learn.
About Te Ara Tūhono
Te Ara Tūhono provides culturally grounded navigation for whānau engaging with ACC and related recovery services.
The service supports whānau across their physical, emotional, cultural and social wellbeing. This may include connecting whānau with therapeutic services, rehabilitation, rongoā Māori and wider community support.
Te Ara Tūhono forms part of Te Piki Ora - Hoani Waititi Marae’s integrated, whānau-centred approach to wellbeing across the whole life course.
About the role
As an ACC Navigator (Junior), you will build trusted relationships with whānau and support them to understand ACC, access the right services and progress their recovery goals.
This is a learning and development role where you will build your knowledge and capability in kaupapa Māori navigation, with guidance and support from experienced kaimahi.
Your mahi will include:
- Building trusted and mana-enhancing relationships with whānau.
- Helping whānau navigate ACC claims, processes, services and entitlements.
- Supporting whānau to develop recovery plans reflecting their needs, strengths and aspirations.
- Connecting whānau with rehabilitation, therapeutic services, rongoā Māori and wider community supports.
- Providing practical navigation and advocacy when engaging with ACC, providers and other agencies.
- Completing regular check-ins, maintaining accurate records and contributing to service coordination and reporting.
- Working collaboratively with ACC representatives, health providers, community services and marae-based teams, while participating in team development and wider marae kaupapa.
About you
You will be warm, organised and comfortable connecting with whānau from a wide range of backgrounds. You will listen well, follow through on what you say and be willing to ask questions as you develop your knowledge.
You will ideally bring:
- Experience in whānau support, hauora, social services, administration, community engagement or a similar people-focused role.
- A genuine interest in whānau-centred and kaupapa Māori service delivery.
- Strong relationship-building, communication and organisational skills.
- Confidence with administration, accurate record-keeping and digital systems.
- An understanding of Te Ao Māori, tikanga and culturally safe practice.
- Basic proficiency in te reo Māori and/or a commitment to continued learning.
- The ability to work independently, contribute positively to a team and develop your knowledge of ACC services and entitlements.
- Experience working directly with ACC would be helpful but is not essential. Training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided.
A full New Zealand driver licence is preferred. Appointment will also be subject to satisfactory Police vetting and reference checks.
Why join Hoani Waititi Marae?
Hoani Waititi Marae is more than a workplace - it is a living expression of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and whakapapa.
Since 1980, we have supported urban Māori across West Auckland through kaupapa grounded in te reo Māori, tikanga Māori and whānau-centred practice.
You will join a supportive, values-driven team where your mahi contributes directly to strengthening the wellbeing of whānau and our wider community, while developing your own capability and experience within kaupapa Māori service delivery.
This position is fixed-term through to 30 June 2027, aligned with the current funding period for the Te Ara Tūhono service.
