What they need

Looking for flexible work that fits around your life?

Our Bank Support Worker roles offer the chance to work around your existing commitments while making a real difference to the lives of young people. Whether you have family commitments, another job or simply want more flexibility, you can pick up shifts that suit your availability while providing support to young people when they need it most.

About Us

At Supporting Independence Outreach Services, we provide 24-hour support to young people aged 16–25, helping them overcome challenges, build confidence and develop the skills they need to live independently.

We support young people with a range of needs, including mental health, substance misuse, domestic abuse, relationship difficulties, behavioural challenges, immigration matters, housing, benefits, education and employment.

Our aim is to provide a safe, supportive and welcoming environment, where young people feel valued and have the opportunity to develop their independence and prepare for adult life.

About the Role

As a Bank Support Worker, you'll provide practical and emotional support across our placements when additional cover is needed, including staff annual leave, sickness, emergencies and periods of increased demand.

No two shifts will be the same. You could be helping a young person develop everyday life skills, supporting them with appointments, encouraging positive choices or simply being there to listen when they need someone to talk to.

Your role will be to help young people feel safe, build confidence and work towards their individual goals.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing practical and emotional support tailored to each young person's needs.
  • Helping young people develop independent living skills, including cooking, budgeting and managing a tenancy.
  • Encouraging young people to access education, training and employment opportunities.
  • Supporting young people with their wellbeing and helping them make positive choices.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming home environment.
  • Contributing to support plans, recording progress and attending meetings and reviews where required.
  • Recognising and managing risks while encouraging young people to develop independence safely.
  • Working alongside colleagues and other professionals to ensure young people receive the right support.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for people who are caring, reliable and approachable, with a genuine interest in helping young people build a better future.

You'll need:

  • Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with young people and colleagues.
  • Patience, emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and build effective relationships with other professionals.
  • A flexible approach to work and the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the service.
  • An understanding of the importance of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • The ability to encourage young people to develop their confidence, life skills and independence.
  • A willingness to learn and take part in training.

Experience supporting people with mental health difficulties, substance misuse or offending backgrounds would be an advantage, but it isn't essential.

A full, clean driving licence is essential for this role, as you will be required to drive company vehicles to support the needs of our young people. Applicants must meet the requirements of our company vehicle insurance policy.

Working Hours

As we provide a 24-hour service, flexibility is important. Bank Support Workers may be required to cover shifts during the day, evenings, weekends, bank holidays shifts, depending on the needs of the service.

This role is ideal for someone looking for additional work alongside other commitments, with the flexibility to pick up shifts when available.

What We Offer

  • Flexible working opportunities to help you balance work with your other commitments.
  • Full training provided, so you can develop the knowledge and skills needed for the role.
  • The opportunity to make a difference by helping young people overcome challenges and work towards independent living.
  • Valuable experience working with young people with a variety of needs and backgrounds.
  • The chance to be part of a team committed to providing safe, consistent and positive support.
