Residential Support Worker – Children’s Residential Care

Athena Care Group | Ynysybwl

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £27,922.20 – £30,621 per year, plus approximately £3,600 per year in sleep-in payments

Build brighter futures. Build yours too.

Make a real difference with Athena Care Group.

We’re looking for caring, resilient and dependable people to join the team at Efail Fach, our new children’s residential home due to open in Ynysybwl.

As a Residential Support Worker, you’ll help create a safe, nurturing and consistent home for children and young people who are unable to live with their families. You’ll build positive relationships, support everyday routines and experiences, and be there for young people through both their achievements and more challenging moments.

Residential childcare can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be demanding. We’re looking for people who are patient, emotionally resilient, able to work as part of a team and committed to putting children and young people at the centre of everything they do.

Before you apply – essential requirements

Full UK manual driving licence: You must hold a full UK DVLA-issued manual driving licence. A provisional or automatic-only licence will not meet the requirements of the role.

Right to work: You must already have the right to work in the UK. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position.

Age requirement: Applicants must be aged 21 or over due to the requirements applicable to our residential childcare service.

What you’ll be doing

No two days in residential childcare are exactly the same. Your role will include:

● Building safe, trusting and consistent relationships with children and young people

● Supporting everyday routines, including school runs, appointments, activities, meals and household tasks

● Supporting young people’s emotional wellbeing and responding appropriately during challenging situations

● Contributing to individual care and support plans

● Helping young people develop confidence, independence and life skills

● Maintaining a safe, welcoming and homely environment

● Completing accurate daily records and documentation

● Working closely with colleagues and other professionals to provide consistent, child-centred and trauma-informed care

Shift pattern & hours

● 14.5-hour shifts, plus overnight sleep-ins

● Approximately 3 shifts per week / 173 hours per month

● Approximately 2 weekends per month

● Rotas provided 6 weeks in advance

The shift pattern is an important part of residential childcare, so please consider whether these hours will work for you before applying.

What we offer

● Competitive pay: £27,922.20 – £30,621 per year, plus approximately £3,600 per year in sleep-in payments

● Annual leave: 25 days annual leave plus an additional paid day off for your birthday

● Healthcare: Benenden Health Care

● Pension: Company pension scheme

● Bonuses: £250 Employee Referral Scheme and £200 quarterly Attendance Bonus

● Supported induction: Two-week paid induction before beginning your shifts

● Career development: Training, qualifications and progression opportunities within Athena Care Group

● Career progression: Opportunities to develop from Residential Support Worker through to Senior, Deputy and management roles

Experience & qualities

Previous experience supporting children or young people is welcomed. We’re particularly interested in people who can demonstrate:

● A genuine commitment to supporting children and young people

● Patience, empathy and emotional resilience

● An understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries

● The ability to remain calm and respond appropriately to challenging situations

● Reliability and the ability to work effectively as part of a team

● A child-centred approach and willingness to learn about trauma-informed care

Our commitment to safer recruitment

We are committed to fair and inclusive recruitment and will make reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process where required.
