Support Worker – Young People Aged 16–25

Job Types: Full-time | Part-time | Bank
Location: Blackburn
Sleep-in Rate: £45 per sleep-in

Make a Real Difference in a Young Person’s Life

Identity Care Housing is looking for compassionate, caring and motivated Support Workers to join our team at our Blackburn provision.

We provide semi-independent living support to vulnerable young people aged 16–25, helping them develop the confidence, independence and practical life skills they need to successfully transition into adulthood and independent living.

Alongside our Blackburn provision, Identity Care Housing also operates a provision in Preston, and we continue to grow our services supporting young people.

We are Ofsted regulated and were graded Outstanding at our last inspection, reflecting our commitment to delivering high-quality support and achieving positive outcomes for young people.

This is more than just a job. If you have a compassionate nature, enjoy supporting and empowering young people, and want to develop a rewarding career in care, we would love to hear from you.

This Is Not a Typical 9–5 Role

Supporting young people requires flexibility, so this is not a standard Monday-to-Friday, 9–5 position.

Our services operate on a rota system, and successful candidates must be prepared to work a mixture of:

  • Day shifts
  • Evening shifts
  • Weekends
  • Sleep-ins
  • Bank holidays where required

We currently have full-time, part-time and bank opportunities available at our Blackburn provision.

Your Role

As a Support Worker, you will:

  • Act as a Key Worker for allocated young people.
  • Build positive, professional and trusting relationships with young people.
  • Support young people to develop essential independent living skills, including cooking, budgeting, cleaning, shopping and managing daily routines.
  • Promote structure, positive boundaries and a safe and supportive home environment.
  • Work in line with individual care and placement plans.
  • Provide one-to-one support and assist with project and group work.
  • Complete accurate daily records and monitor each young person's progress.
  • Encourage young people to access education, training, employment and other positive opportunities.
  • Support young people with applications, enrolments and appointments where required.
  • Identify areas where additional support may be needed.
  • Recognise and appropriately escalate safeguarding and welfare concerns.
  • Encourage independence while providing the appropriate level of guidance and support.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Have a caring, compassionate and supportive nature.
  • Are patient, resilient, reliable and approachable.
  • Are passionate about improving outcomes for young people.
  • Can build positive relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Have good written skills and can maintain accurate records.
  • Understand the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality.
  • Are flexible and able to work a varied rota.

Previous experience supporting young people within residential care, supported accommodation, community or leaving-care settings is desirable.

Training, Qualifications & Career Progression

At Identity Care Housing, we want our staff to develop and progress, not simply fill a position.

All successful candidates will receive a comprehensive induction programme, covering their role, responsibilities, safeguarding procedures and our ways of working.

You will also have the opportunity to complete shadow shifts alongside experienced members of staff, allowing you to build your confidence and become familiar with the service before working more independently.

We are committed to investing in the development of our staff and offer:

  • Mandatory and ongoing training
  • Opportunities to complete a Level 3 qualification
  • Opportunities to undertake further relevant qualifications
  • Continuous professional development
  • Opportunities to progress to Senior Support Worker
  • Longer-term opportunities to progress into leadership and management roles
