What they need

About the role

Golden Star Care Pty Ltd is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Vietnamese Support Worker to join our team on a casual basis. You will deliver high-quality, person-centred support to people living with disability, older people, and people recovering from injury, in their homes, in supported accommodation and in the community. Your work will directly improve the wellbeing, independence, dignity and choice of the people we support.

The role covers clients funded through the NDIS and other government schemes. You will work within each client's support plan and under the direction of our care leadership team.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and support in line with each client's support plan, risk assessments and assessed needs
  • Assist with daily living activities, including showering, dressing, grooming, toileting and continence care
  • Support mobility, transfers and manual handling using safe techniques and prescribed equipment
  • Support clients to take part in social, recreational and community activities, and to build their independence
  • Assist with meal preparation and nutrition support, following any mealtime management or dysphagia plan
  • Assist clients with medication as directed by their medication plan, where you are trained and authorised to do so
  • Implement strategies from positive behaviour support plans, where these are in place
  • Monitor clients' health and wellbeing, and promptly report any changes, incidents or concerns
  • Recognise and respond to any risk of abuse, neglect or exploitation, and follow our incident management and reporting procedures
  • Complete accurate, timely and objective progress notes, shift records and incident reports
  • Communicate respectfully with clients, families, carers, support coordinators and the wider care team
  • Maintain a safe, clean and respectful environment, including infection prevention and control practices
  • Comply with all Golden Star Care policies and procedures, relevant legislation, and the codes of conduct that apply to the role

Scope of the role

  • This is a casual position. Shifts are offered according to client needs and your availability, and hours are not guaranteed.
  • Support is delivered within the client's documented support plan. Any task outside that plan, or outside your training, must be referred to your supervisor.
  • This role does not include clinical nursing tasks. Perform high-intensity supports only after client-specific training and competency sign-off.

Essential requirements

The following must be supplied and verified before you start work:

  • Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33021), Certificate IV in Disability Support (CHC43121), or an equivalent qualification. Candidates currently enrolled in one of these qualifications may also be considered.

  • An NDIS Worker Screening Check clearance. This clearance is also accepted for aged care roles.

  • A Victorian Working with Children Check (Employee).

  • A current First Aid certificate (HLTAID011) and CPR certificate (HLTAID009). CPR must be renewed annually.

  • A completion certificate for the NDIS Worker Orientation Module "Quality, Safety and You".

  • Proof of your right to work in Australia, and 100 points of identification.

  • A current full driver licence, plus a registered and comprehensively insured vehicle

  • Two professional referees, preferably from recent care-sector roles.

Key selection criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in disability support, aged care or community services
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build trusting and respectful relationships with clients and families
  • Understanding of person-centred practice, choice and control, and human rights
  • Ability to follow support plans, recognise risks and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Ability to write clear, objective progress notes and incident reports
  • Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Physical capacity to perform manual handling and personal care duties safely
  • A working knowledge of the NDIS Code of Conduct and the Code of Conduct for Aged Care

Desirable

  • Training in medication assistance, food safety, anaphylaxis management, or AFAC Fire Safety Awareness

  • Experience with high-intensity supports, such as enteral (PEG) feeding, catheter care, subcutaneous injections, dysphagia and mealtime management

  • Experience implementing positive behaviour support plans

  • Experience with electronic rostering, care planning or progress note systems

What we offer

  • Eligibility to register with Victoria's Portable Long Service Authority (PLSA), so you build long service leave entitlements across the community services sector

  • Client-specific training, with ongoing supervision and mentoring from experienced care leaders

  • Opportunities for professional development, training and career progression

  • Flexible rostering, where possible, to support work–life balance

  • A supportive and inclusive team that values diversity and respects every team member
