Overview
We are seeking reliable, respectful and experienced Complex Care Support Workers to provide person-centred support within a 24-hour home-care package for an adult with advanced multiple sclerosis and complex physical, cognitive, sensory and communication needs. Day, evening and waking-night shifts are available. The package normally requires one-to-one support, with two carers for specified morning and evening tasks, including personal care and moving and handling.
Desirable Requirements
Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care, or willingness to work towards one.
Experience supporting a person with multiple sclerosis, sensory loss, cognitive impairment, dysphagia, sleep apnoea, suprapubic catheter care or complex bowel-management needs.
Current training in medication administration, moving and handling, basic life support, safeguarding, infection control, food hygiene and dysphagia awareness.
Experience of waking-night care and monitoring a person whose needs may fluctuate overnight.
Experience working in a stable care team during a provider transition or continuity-of-care arrangement.
Essential Requirements
Previous experience supporting adults with complex physical disabilities, neurological conditions or similarly high-level care needs.
Competence in full personal care, continence care, skin monitoring, repositioning and pressure-area prevention while maintaining dignity and privacy.
Moving and handling experience, including safe use of hoists, slide sheets, specialist beds, wheelchairs and shower or toileting equipment.
Ability to support prescribed medication in line with the care plan, MAR records, training and organisational policy.
Understanding of dysphagia and aspiration risks, including safe support with an IDDSI Level 4 puréed diet, normal fluids, close supervision and accurate recording of intake.
Ability and willingness to complete package-specific training and competency assessment for CPAP, lung-volume rebreather support, secretion management and catheter care.
Ability to recognise and promptly escalate changes in breathing, swallowing, pain, infection, skin condition, catheter function, bowel function, cognition or general wellbeing.
Confident communication skills, including giving simple instructions, allowing additional processing time and adapting communication for significant sight, hearing, cognitive and speech impairments.
Ability to respond calmly and professionally to repetitive questioning, anxiety, refusal of care, disinhibited or inappropriate comments, and distressed behaviour while maintaining clear boundaries and following the behaviour-support plan.
Willingness to work collaboratively with family members, established carers, healthcare professionals and the wider care team, following agreed routines and person-centred plans.
Reliability and flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, waking nights and provide planned holiday or sickness cover according to the rota.
Accurate written and verbal reporting, including care notes, medication records, food and fluid intake, repositioning, catheter and bowel care, and incident or concern reporting.
Commitment to safeguarding, infection prevention and control, confidentiality, equality, dignity, consent and safe lone-working practices.
Enhanced DBS clearance and satisfactory employment references, with the right to work in the UK.
