What they need

Helping others improve and turn their lives around – there’s no better feeling. It’s what we do for thousands of people at more than 150 sites across the UK. Be a part of it.

Start a rewarding career in care

Cygnet Group is looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Support Worker to join the day team at The Squirrels. This is an excellent opportunity whether you already work in health and social care or are looking for your first care job and a new career where you can make a genuine difference.

You do not need previous experience as a Support Worker, Care Assistant or Healthcare Assistant to apply. If you share our values and bring patience, empathy, reliability and a willingness to learn, we will provide the fully paid training, induction and ongoing support you need to grow in the role.

No two days are the same. You will help the people we support enjoy fulfilling, independent and active lives at The Squirrels and in the local community.

About the role

This is a permanent, 42-hour-per-week Support Worker position, working 12-hour day shifts across a seven-day rota. The rota includes approximately two weekends each month. Shift times vary, with some beginning at 7:00 am and others finishing at 10:00 pm.

  • Provide compassionate, person-centred care and support tailored to individual needs.
  • Encourage independence, choice, dignity and wellbeing in everyday life.
  • Support daily routines, meaningful activities, social events and access to the local community.
  • Build positive relationships with residents, families and colleagues.
  • Follow individual support plans and contribute to a safe, comfortable and effective care environment.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a supportive residential care team.

About The Squirrels

The Squirrels is a specialist residential service for adults with autism and learning disabilities, including people who may present with behaviours that challenge, communication differences or complex needs. The service promotes independence, community integration and a safe, comfortable care environment.

Who we are looking for

Experience is welcome, but it is not essential. We are more interested in your values, attitude and commitment to helping others. You may be an experienced Support Worker, Care Assistant, Healthcare Assistant, Residential Support Worker, Autism Support Worker or Learning Disability Support Worker, or you may be completely new to care and ready to learn.

  • A caring, compassionate and respectful approach.
  • A genuine desire to support adults with autism and learning disabilities.
  • Patience, resilience and a calm, positive attitude.
  • Good communication skills and the confidence to build trusting relationships.
  • A reliable, team-focused approach and willingness to learn.
  • Flexibility to work 12-hour day shifts, weekends and a seven-day rota.
  • Commitment to person-centred support, safeguarding, dignity, choice and independence.

Full training and support from day one

Starting a new career in care can feel like a big step, so you will not be expected to know everything when you join. Cygnet provides a fully paid induction and training programme to help you build the knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed for the role. You will also receive ongoing support from colleagues and have access to career development opportunities, funded apprenticeships and nationally recognised qualifications.

Why join Cygnet?

  • £13.45 to £14.00 per hour.
  • Permanent contract for 42 hours per week.
  • Fully paid training and induction, with ongoing support.
  • Free meal while on shift and paid breaks.
  • 28 days of paid annual leave, including bank holidays.
  • NHS Blue Light Discount Card.
  • Contributory pension scheme.
  • Access to staff support and wellbeing services through Cygnet’s online portal.
  • Career development opportunities, including fully funded apprenticeships and nationally recognised qualifications.

Who we support

  • Adults aged 18 and over.
  • People with autism and/or learning disabilities.
  • People who may present with behaviours that challenge.
  • Residents with communication differences and complex support needs.
