Surface Mining Application Manager

Job Overview** The primary purpose of the Surface Mining Applications Manager’s role is to provide technical support and expertise in the field regarding every aspect (technical as application wise) of the whole Surface Miner product line by successfully accomplishing the following.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Monitors existing machine performance and develops new techniques to improve reliability, availability and performance.
• Establishes her/himself as the Surface Miner and cutting tools product expert by conducting market research, attends training and fairs, participates in internal training opportunities, develops relationships with factory, customers and industry experts thereby accumulating relevant product and application knowledge.
• Constantly improves his/her knowledge of geotechnical, mining and application relevant parameters.
• In partnership with the service/training department plans, schedules and conducts product training for existing and potential new customers.
• Recommends and implements changes to product which would improve cost, performance, and overall applicability for customer-specific needs.
• Performs professional demonstrations (necessity to accompany/operate the machine and to monitor and document performance related details)
• Manages specific product start-ups in the field with customers, recommends specific job-site solutions.
• Produces competitive analysis materials, follows market trends, compares product with its key competitors.
• Works closely with service and the mining team to assist in finding technical solutions for customer-specific needs.
• Works in conjunction with the mining team on sales and application issues.
• Serves as the liaison between service department and concerns as reported by the end user.
• Promotes, recommends, monitors and predicts cutting tool consumption, performance and works in close cooperation with our system partner Betek to improve these tools.
• Travels on average 3 weeks a month to consult with customers to address pending issues, gives performance/cutting tool recommendations, conducts professional demonstrations and resolves application issues.
• Develop and recommend mining methods that optimize the potential of the Surface Miner line.
• Assures product adheres to the industry required standards and improves product by performing audits, tests and recommends internally/externally corrective actions to the service department/factory.

Education/Experience & Skills: High school or GED equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree is preferred or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
