Surface Preparation Technician

Purpose of the Role

To prepare component surfaces to the required standard prior to fluoropolymer coating application, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to process specifications. This is a key production role — the quality of surface preparation directly determines the performance and durability of the finished coating.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain shot blasting and surface preparation equipment safely and efficiently, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

• Prepare a wide range of customer components for coating, including cleaning, masking, grit blasting and surface profiling to specified standards

• Inspect prepared surfaces to confirm they meet the required finish and profile before progressing to the coating line

• Complete production documentation accurately, including job cards, process records and quality check sheets

• Monitor consumable levels (blast media, masking materials) and report replenishment needs to the Production Manager

• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment in line with health and safety requirements

• Work as part of a small, close-knit production team, supporting colleagues across the coating process when required

• Identify and report any quality issues, surface defects or non-conformances promptly

• Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting practical ways to improve efficiency, quality or safety in the preparation area

• Basic literacy and numeracy for completing production paperwork and quality records

• Willingness to learn and develop — full training on all equipment and processes will be provided

Desirable but Not Essential

• Previous experience in shot blasting, surface preparation, painting or coating environments

• Experience working in a manufacturing, engineering or workshop setting

• Forklift licence or willingness to obtain one

• Basic understanding of health and safety in a production environment

Pay: £14.00-£16.50 per hour

Expected hours: 39.0 per week
