Surgical Technician

POSITION: Surgical Technician

REPORTS TO: Physician & Administrative Director

JOB SUMMARY: A Surgical Technician is responsible for assisting surgeons, nurses, and other medical professionals during surgical procedures. They ensure the operating room is prepared, maintain a sterile environment, and provide the necessary instruments and supplies during surgery.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Preoperative Preparation:

o Set up the operating room with surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and necessary equipment.

o Ensure all surgical tools are sterilized and functional.

o Assist in preparing the patient for surgery, including positioning and sterile preparation.

2. Intraoperative Assistance:

o Pass instruments, sponges, and supplies to surgeons during procedures.

o Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure efficiency.

o Monitor and maintain a sterile field, preventing contamination.

o Handle specimens for laboratory analysis as directed.

3. Postoperative Duties:

o Assist in cleaning and restocking the operating room.

o Properly dispose of used materials and ensure instruments are decontaminated.

o Transport patients to recovery areas if needed.

o Document surgical procedures and instrument counts accurately.

4. Daily Tasks:

o Assist in ordering supplies

o Keep all clinical OR charting and credentialing logs up to date.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Certification from an accredited surgical technology program (CST preferred).

2. Knowledge of sterile techniques and infection control.

3. Strong attention to detail and ability to work in high-pressure environments.

4. Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

5. Physical stamina to stand for long hours and assist in surgeries.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
