Surgical Technologist Intern

Position Summary: Acts as the primary scrub person who handles the instruments, supplies and equipment during surgical procedures.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Functions as a third scrub as assigned to support extremities, hold retractors, and sponge the operative area as needed.
• Functions as first scrub in minor OR procedures after successful validation of skills by a certified and licensed McLaren-Bay employee. Procedures include, but not limited to, D&C’s, hernias, arthroscopics, cystos, and C-sections.
• Assumes responsibility for expanding knowledge base through participation in various surgical procedures or attending department in-services as time permits.
• Assists in maintaining a safe and orderly work environment, adhering to established policies.
• Assists with OR set-up and clean-up activities under the direction of McLaren-Bay staff.
• Demonstrates organizational skills and appropriately prioritizes assigned work responsibilities.
• Responds to real or simulated emergencies and disaster situations according to established policies.
• Respects patient’s rights by providing privacy and confidentiality of information.
• Participates in performance improvement activities.
• Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards, as evidenced by observation, documentation, and peer feedback.

• Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications: Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Currently enrolled in an accredited CST program
• Graduation from program pending in five (5) months
• CPR issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross
